sure just dont run it within 24 hours after you turn the power back on\\\

unit has crankcase heater that can attract small critters to nest near the heat.

shut it off for winter but as said by previous poster turn it on 24hrs before running unit.

is this crankcase heater common even on older units? None of my neighbors have heard of turning off the power to the outside unit in winter. How much power do they draw? Thanks for the tip.

They were not too common on older units.

They pull about .5 amps or so.

all depends on the make and model, some do some don't.

original posters unit does.

not that they draw much electricity but they do draw critters........:eek:
