Ok after reading about the tankless WH's i have a question, surprised huh

I have an 80 gallon electric WH on a day night meter. I have elect range, dryer, central AC, and the WH . My bill when not using the AC too much runs about 75.00 to 80.00 per month. 2 people in the house.

Now would I be further ahead getting a 40 gall and going back to a regular day meter ?

Or putting a timer on my 80 gall and keeping the night meter but setting the timer so it comes on at 4am instead of 11pm ?

I thought about a NG one but my neighbor has one and his bill runs more than mine with the same size and design house ...

I also thought about a tankless but that doesn't sound like a good move right now. Someone here said a elect WH is 100% efficient which I guess it would be but I wonder if I am saving with the 80 gall on the day night.

If I was to go to a 40 gallon the day night meter would have e run out of water some days so that option is out:rolleyes:

Oh also, IF we decided to go with a NG WH could we go to a power vent that uses PVC to vent thru sidewall ?? Do these use 2 pipes one for exhaust and one for combustion air ?

Any problem using these in a basement that the furnace uses inside combustion air ??

A powervented water heater uses 1 pipe.

Your electric water heater has a recovery rate, of roughly 22 gallons an hour(depending how hot the stat is set).

I would leave it as it is.

A time clock won't save you enough to pay for itself for many years, if at all.

Just so im clear, if thats possible. Which would you choose;

1) 80 gall electric wh on day / night meter

2) 40 gallon elect on regular day meter

3) 40 gallon powervent NG wh

Again I dont know why but my neighbor has same size house and everything only one person there and everything the same as me except she has a ng wh and her bill is abotu 10-15.00 more every month.

I thought ng was alot cheape:rolleyes:

I'd stay with the 80 gallon with off peak timer like you have.

NG water heaters have higher standby loss then electric water heaters.
