Which book did you get?
The NAIMA book has good illustrations of how to build all the duct, transitions, offsets, takeoffs, how to hang it, how to connect it to the equipment, fire dampers, etc..

link Mark posted has very good instructions in it.
what tools did you get? shiplap or notcher?
only thing we used back when we did ductboard was shiplap tools. felt they made a stronger duct.
main advise i would give you is to double check all your measurements until you get used to the "add ons" for the different joints.;)

Find somebody to sub the duct (fabrication if not install)and learn at the same time.
