Our company uses a 50-point checklist for all tune-ups. Covers everything from the service switch operation to the drains (if present), amps, volts, airflow, combustion analysis and everything in between.

after we turned the burner off, bout a 5 sec visual.
Then stated, and I quote....."now if it starts leaking or the flames aren't nice and blue you'll have to get your heat exchanger taken out"

check everything out cycle system and what not. we have a checklist for furnaces, and a checklist for heat pumps. do do not do combustion analysis on a reg PM. if you like to pay additional for it we will :) my 1200 dollar analyzer doesn't come off the truck inless the homeowner wants it too :)
also make recommendations for improvement of IAQ and other aspects of your home.
also make recommendations for system repairs, only to be told no because you bought a new car yesterday and cannot afford to repair your HVAC system

once a tech touches the furnace, the liability is his. maintenance without an analyzer to me is short what needs to be done. no one can look me in the eye and say a furnace is safe if they haven't measured combustion.
incidentially, my analyzer has more than paid itself off.

I feel like you're a professional and probably try to help the customer. I feel jipped.
I was hoping he'd measure pressures on the compressor. WE walked out to the compressor, eyeballed it and wrote out the bill on top of the compressor.

do you use a combustion analyzer on a natural or propane furnace??
I'm pretty sure you have to on an oil furnace.
if so, what does it tell you that inlet and outlet pressure can't??

We do an efficiency test on every checkup whether its gas or oil.
Well worth it, especially when mr. homeowner see they are getting 75% efficiency.

basically got this:
Coming back from an installation across the county, and it was a good time to drop in. Didn't have alot of time to spend and since had been out there to do PM on A/C back in early March and cleaned soot-we felt didn't NEED spend alot of time there
In fact, I was told that I got off pretty easy w/the $X amount of buckage, he should have charged $XX and he got chewed out by the boss for not. Hmmm
Fact is, he never got one analyzer for the HE in March or last week.
I was nice and didn't raise my voice and understood the need for them to make $ too. So the burning question is do I stick w/these guys or move on.
When it comes time for a new HP I really would like an Amana and there the only installer of this in the area.

A combustion analyzer will tell you how much carbon monoxide is being produced by the combustion process. It will alert you to unsafe conditions that would not be indicated by gas pressures.
Under certain circumstances, the correct pressures on the data plate will produce unsafe levels of carbon monoxide.
