Cant tell you the age but I remember some of the old Gaffers and sattler gas packs were repainted brown and labled magic chef.
Is this a package unit, or a split system?

Don't have the serial # decoder at home but I'd guess late 80s, 2 ton split pump.

Thanks for the replys!
It is a split system with a Lennox air handler (I assume they were installed together). It looks almost exactly like the one BaldLoonie posted, but mine is a bit more narrow. I was told, back when I moved in, that the unit was new in 1992, but I though it was a bit older than that. As crazy as it may sound, I like how the fan is oriented as mine is installed underneath a deck. It's held up well for how old it is!

Not to raise a dead thread, but my compressor is shot.
Can anyone decode the model number? At this point I am not sure if this actually is a 1.5 or 2 ton unit and I need to know which it is.
I appreciate any help!
Thanks!

What is the model # of the comp? Compressors can be up to 1/2 ton under the nominal capacity of the unit. Any model # on the machine itself?

Hi BaldLoonie. The model of the machine PE024S-5. I can look for the compressor model number, but I am thinking of getting a complete new system at this point as opposed to a new compressor.

If you want something that is even the slightest bit efficient you'll need to replace the entire system.
And by compressor I'm assuming you mean, outdoor unit. But I wouldnt just replace that, matter of fact I wouldnt do it if you called the company I work for out there and told me thats what you wanted.
There will end up being call backs. We'd end up warrantying crap that is related to the old system. It will never work exactly right. It wouldnt be efficient. And all we'd end up with in the end is a dissatisfied customer and callbacks that ate into any profit we made.
Mix matching equipment isnt usually a good idea. With the right equipment on the job you can make it work but I would charge more for labor then a indoor unit would cost.
I'm in Harford, MD. Where are you located?

It is a 2 ton. I certainly wouldn't put money into it. By now probably 20+ years old with lots of other stuff waiting to go wrong.

Does it look anything like a toaster? Does it have 2 slots or 4?

Hi CynicX, I appreciate the reply. I am in Crofton.
I agree with you. I am going to have the entire system replaced at this point. I've been told I may have to reuse the line set as there is no easy way to change it.

Thanks for the reply BaldLoonie. It's time for a complete new 2 ton system! No I must do some research on brands.

Heh, it does look like a toaster. It kind of looks like hell these days actually. I admit I like how the fan is orientated since it is under a deck.

Good morning Mdmatt. I am local to you my email is in my profile. Feel free to e mail me. We can go over some brands. How high is the deck? Chances are the new unit will need to be relocated. Have a good day.
