As per my previous post I have an ASZ14+AEPF 3.5 ton system and my installer will be replacing the Flowrator at the AHU with a TX valve. While he has the system open, I thought that I would have him install a discharge muffler per Bulletin 021. See this post (http://www.hvac-talk.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=153296&page=2).

The system has always sent vibration into the house during heating and the lack of a muffler has been a deficiency that I have wanted to fix. I have looked for contact points between the house structure and the line set.

I'm getting a little hesitation from the Amana folks in our area about the potential benefits of the muffler and I am wondering how much effect it should have on what type of noise/vibration? How can a muffler not help?

Will larger mufflers have more noise reducing effect? The standard Amana one is quite small. My neighbours Carrier 410A unit has a larger diameter muffler (Parker PM3083-5-4C) installed. Would this be a quieter solution?

Is there a downside to installing a muffler?

Thanks for the help.
