Hi All,
I'm new to HVAC-talk. I'm in the market for a new furnace/AC system. I had an estimate recently where I was warned away from Amana systems. How much truth is there to this? I was told that Carrier and Trane (what he sold) were better. They're certainly more popular as I see them everywhere.
Of course that is what he says.

Rather unprofessional to go negative about a brand you don't sell :(
Premium Amana is about as good as you can get in a furnace (but no modulating model). One of the best heat exchangers out there. Well built outdoor units with extra compressor protection features, diagnostics & sound deadening. The lower end Distinctions models are OK for the money if you are looking for a budget line but more features in the full Amana models (start with A model #).
But the key is best possible install & proper sizing. That's hard to find these days.

Oh man. Amana doesn't sell a modulating unit? Crap I was under the impression they did. Still, what you said about the premium units gives me confidence if I choose to got w/Amana.
Thanks once again Bald

The big guys and Amana/Goodman is one of them are pretty much the same. They all have their nuances and problems, but none are more glaring than the other. I would shy away from off brands and brands that don't have a good, solid supply house presence in your area for replacement parts. You don't want to wait 2 weeks for a warranty compressor in July or a week for an inducer motor in January.

i have installed both amana and carrier for two different companies. personaly i like the amana systems because they are smaller and less joints to sodder becuase amana puts the filter dryer inside the condensing unit and carrier does not and carrier units are a whole of a lot bigger than amana

I like the Filter Drier field installed. Much easier to change if you have to open the sealed system.
I like Lennox and that is what I installed in my house. My employer sells Amana/Goodman and Lennox. I personally think Lennox is a better product.

I think Goodman is making a mistake with the Amana Distinctions marketing. It's too close in name to Amana which many on here think a lot of.
Goodman has left themselves wide open for bashing by not placing a greater separation between their best product (Amana) and a builder's grade product (Amana Distinctions).

It would still be called associated with Amana, no matter what the last part of the name was.
Thats the whle idea behind their marketing plan. Is for people to reconize the Amana name.
