We have 15 y/o Lennox straight A/C and furnace. Its been a good system, though its builder grade-its never given us a lick of problems. Knowing that HVAC systems avg lifespan (these days) are from 15-18 years, we've begun thinking about replacement w/a HP. WE're wanting to do this right, spend the $ upfront and enjoy years of comfort and some savings
Our electric rates just jumped to .12cents per kwh and we live somewhere in the hinterlands south of Memphis. We heat w/butane and its price is stable, around here it is.
We're gonna get our trusted tech out for the annual (now semi-annual) inspection prior to turning cold. If he does find potential problems w/the heating or A/C that needs a big fix, is it time to jettison the old and bring in the new?
He installs Amana and Trane. Brand doesn't really matter; I care about good installs. Still, I keep reading about the IQ drive straight A/C and can't get it out of my mind.
Opinions on 15 to 16 SEER HP vs 23 SEER IQ drive? And just some general things to perk up on in case our tech give us any bad news
Thank you immensly
