View Full Version : Questions on Bryant Dual-Fuel Proposal

I am helping a friend in the Philadelphia area decide on a replacement HVAC system. Dual fuel is being considered because PECO gives a break on the electric rate if you have a heat pump (15 cents/kw-hr for the first 600 kw-hrs, 7.3 cents/kw-hr after 600 kw-hrs).

They have a proposal for a Bryant Legacy 14 Puron heat pump, model# 224ANA036. I need to get the model number of the matching indoor coil.

The gas furnaces that were offerred include an Evolution Plus 80V model# 315AAV048090, and a Preferred Plus 80T model# 312AAV048090. I understand that they are both 80% efficient.

Questions/Comments:
1. The AHRI Directory doesn't recognize the Legacy 14 heat pump although it is listed on Bryant's web site. The Directory does recognize the straight a/c condenser version, model# 124ANA036. I realize that the Legacy 14 is Bryant's lower end model. I'll probably recommend a step-up to the mid-grade Preferred Series since I don't have any performance data on the Legacy 14. Comments on the Legacy line? Any performance numbers available for the Legacy 14 with the above furnaces?

2. There is an AHRI match for the Preferred Series heat pump (model# 264ANA036) with the Evolution Plus 80V furnace, but not with Preferred Plus 80T. Am I missing something?

3. I understand that the Evolution furnace has a variable speed motor, and the Preferred Plus is a dual-stage furnace. What is the btu output of the Evolution model# 315AAV048090?

4. The best performance numbers with the Preferred Series heat pump and Evolution Plus 80V is with coil model# CSPH*4212A which is ARI# 1266737: 36,000 btu cooling, 11.5 EER, 14 SEER, 36,000 btu heating at 47F, 8.3 HSPF, 23,600 btu heating at 17F. The HSPF is a little weak but all other numbers look solid.

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Thanx.

i'm not sure why but they don't seem to have ahri ratings for the lower end systems yet, at least they are not in my book. maybe bald loonie has some?

No idea! We may need a Bryant guy to explain it. That model is still listed on the dealer site. Could have been dropped though. Seems like some of the Bryant models are cheapening a bit. The RNC line sure is.

Specs on the 224ANA036 with matching coil and that furnace are similar to what you listed on the Preferred unit. Mechanically they are probably the same machine with the Preferred getting a little nicer cabinet, top grille, swept wing fan blade, a little quieter.

I have ran into the same problems with the newer stuff,3 stage MVC heaters an coil match ups.Peco is running rebates now and I am not sure if Bryant is(CARRIER IS NOW and they are the same)we have not sold many a/c units in PECO land because it does not make sense with the RH rate.Let me know where he is and we may go there or know someone good.

They are located in Northeast Philly.

Their a/c condenser is broken but current gas furnace is functional. I told them that they are in no immediate rush, should get 3 more quotes, and are not committed to any brand. They are looking for good value for the $$ (anotherwords, they're probably not interested in top-of-the-line.)

Appreciate your help.

Thank you, B/L.

I can't recommend a system that has no ARI info (its against my religion).

Some of the matching coils for the Preferred Series have HSPFs as low as 7.7 which is piss poor. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing that they may have gotten one of these combinations.

Any info on the Evolution furnace model# 315AAV048090 - btu output, other opinions?

Take care.

Not sure why they aren't on AHRI but I can get you the ratings from Bryant's dealer site. They are almost identical to what the 264 gets. Might even be able to download the pdf and send you.

OK - that would be much appreciated.

Can you check the numbers with both furnaces that were offered, and include the best coil match?

Thanx.

pdf in your inbox!

Thank you, B/L.

I see that another matching indoor coil model# CNPH*4221A has numbers similar to the CSPH*4212A.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 2 coils?

Thanx.

The cs is a slob coil and will require a duct transition between the furnace and coil. the CN is a but upcoil that connects dirrectly to the furnace

OK - not sure I understand "slob coil" but I think I understand that the CN is the coil that is easier and more proper to install.

Thank you.
