Rangel pays IRS, says he is target of GOP 'guerrilla war'
Rep. Charles Rangel wrote six checks for about $10,800 in back taxes and then penned an open letter to New Yorkers on Friday, saying he has done nothing dishonorable and is the target of a GOP "guerrilla war."

..."My record in the Ways and Means Committee and 38 years in Congress is unassailable, so they've pried into my private life and used insinuation and half-truths to write stories that sell papers," Rangel wrote.

Well there's your answer. Democrats break the law (for years in this case and clearly not excusable) and it's someone else's fault. He didn't pay taxes (and he's a tax code writer!), got caught and now it's all because the GOP is 'out to get him'. If it is 'half-truths' and 'insinuation' why is he paying the tab? He asserts that it's all a "...series of mistakes that are unconscionable, but we're not talking about any intention to avoid or evade the law."

Yeah, tell it to the people that get audited every year.

I want to know why he's not paying penalties.

It would be way simpler for Rangel to blame his tax accountant.

It's a sad day when Dem. pretend to be Repubs.

However you see them, first they are Politicians, second Party Members.

Rates aren't too high, he just can't 'understand the code' cause it was a 'misunderstanding'.

As another poster posited. Why didn't he just blame his accountant??????

As another poster posited. Why didn't he just blame his accountant?????? He's not a Republican, always looking to blame someone else. Or even worse, looking for blame. Gees, just like floods in the midwest and hurricanes along the coast, sh!t happens and nobody is to blame, Spiro blamed his accountant and look what it got him, and republicans are better for it. Oh jenny?
