I know there is the "junk yard" on here, but its too broad to everyone in HVAC-Talk. I have quite a bit of just control "stuff" that I won't use anytime in the near future, but its either new, fairly new or I just can't just throw it away.

I know there are other people that I would think that they would possibly use some of my things that I have and don't use and vice versa.

So what about just a quick list of the stuff we have just sitting around collecting dust and possibly have a "swap meet"?

What do y'all think?

There have been a couple of posts on here I have seen of someone trying to sell stuff. They usually get slammed and accused of stealing. There will probably be some of that on this thread too. Are you talking about just trading stuff and not selling?

I sent this place http://www.isa-net.com/ an email 2 weeks ago with a list of stuff that I trip over in my basement, have yet to hear back :(

Anyone else know of place like this that buys crap like this? I too would hate to throw it away, but its coming down to that here soon....

I dont have a problem with it.

I have a bunch of NAE 5500's again. Who in their right mind would steal one?
Kind of like stealing landminds at the Kennel. But then again some guys like FECES...

Yea just swapping stuff for me. I have some trane LON VAV borads that are new I would like to try to find someone with some ALC stuff.

I guess this afternoon I'll post the junk I've got.

I have some ALC parts and some Johnson Parts. I'll have to look at what I have when I get home and post. But I have about 10 ALC VAV controllers, they were all working fine as far as I know when we took them out, we just took them out because of the prior service company was taking too long to respond to service calls.

I know, I just thought I would mention it before someone came in a flame'n...

I don't have a problem with it either, and actually have a more TEC's than I need. I think I have an Alerton display too, I'll have to check the model if someone's interested.

Am I in the minority? I leave all parts from a retro on site. In my eyes they do not belong to me they belong to the customer, and my shop is not that big. If I want to play with one I ask the owner if I can have one.

What would it take to be able to use the VAV retrofit kits? Can these be used with an iLON 100? I've got some non crtical trane VAV's that need to be retrofitted.

Thanks,

Basically anything that IS LON works with LON.

Bacnet is the protocol where you have to verify simple things like communication compatibility. Plus, you have to figure out what their objects actually are because they don't have very many definitions.

Yep. As far as I know they should work. These have the board, box, transducer, but no actuator. These I bought myself. If your worried about any shady business Ive got receipts.

I don't know if you're in the minority or not. But we do pretty much the same where I work. We ASK the customer, "Do you want the stuff? Or do you want us to dispose of it?"

Whether its old pneumatic, electrical, electronic, or DDC stuff.

Mostly, we wouldn't want to actually keep any of it anyway. GAD, if we kept old stuff, we'd have to build a new warehouse to put it in. Just did a job where we ripped out and replaced a bunch of older Andover stuff. Almost all of which still worked just fine. Just the controllers alone would have filled up the beds of a couple large pickup trucks.

I suppose we could have found a buyer for the stuff. In fact, I know of buyers who would want the stuff. However, we haven't the excess staff or time to sort through it all, check it over, catalog the stuff, and so forth. So we just piled it neatly and gave the customer some names and phone numbers for those who might want to buy it. And let the customer deal with it.

We have staff people, including myself, who know and understand the Andover stuff. In fact we used to be an Andover dealer/rep. However, we simply haven't the extra manpower/manhours to fool around with the old stuff. The technicians' time is better spent on current projects, its more profitable.

And besides, the old stuff IS the property of the customer.

Now, occasionally there will be an item (or items) that we could use in our current business. In which case we'll ask the customer if we can have it, buy it, or make a trade for it.

i.e. We still service some older CSI stuff and have a number of customers who still have that stuff installed. So when I was working a project where we were ripping out some old CSI stuff I called our CSI tech and read him off a list of what was available and working. He named off several items he was interested in adding to our parts storeroom. I then contacted our salesman who handled this customer contract, passed him the info. He in turn contacted customer and played "let's make a deal". He negotiated a deal where we gave customer a spare controller of a type he would currently have use for in return for our getting the used parts.

Now I have simply asked a customer for an old part/controller. And have gotten them for free. It being a matter of my simply wanting to play around with it, to see how it ticks. Or, sometimes if its an item I know how to work with, I just want it for a personal project. i.e. Around my home I have a number of things that are run by old programmable controllers. I just use em as dedicated controllers instead of building a box with a bunch with relays, timers, etc.

But, no, I don't simply "take" what is in fact property that belongs to a customer.

And mostly, when customer responds to our question as to what should we do with the old stuff by saying he wants us to get rid of it ... we just dump it in a dumpster.

Gad, if we kept everything, even if we kept only the "best of", we'd fast run out of storage space. We have troubles enough with that to start with just dealing with left over new parts from this project and that.

Cool I don't TAKE equipment either-I like my job and I want to keep it. The difference is with me I DO ASK. And your right, somethings are just junk. I don't keep most things I come across. Like you said if I kept half the old equipment that was being replaced, I wouldn't know where to keep it. So, thanks for letting us know where your coming from-now you know where I am coming from.

That's what I hear 99% of the time and if I felt/feel like it may help out one of my "Good" customers in a pickle, then I just kept it, and always told the customer in need that this may or not get you by, but at least your not down until we can get a new replacement. I never charged for anything like that, everyone was always very thankful :D

I take it when its dumped in the dumpster its all done in an enviromentaly friendily manner ;) Hate to think all that mercury, arsenic and lead contaminating land fills...

Re-selling as spares or as replacements where the manufacturer no longer support the product seems a far more practical way of reducing waste and pollution

We are looking for legacy systems for use in our test lab.

About a month ago we released the S4 Open: N2 Switch and S4 Open: OPC-N2 Router. The S4 Open: BACnet-N2 Router is in field test. So we are putting some effort into planning what integrations to develop next.

Where do we go from here? The S4 Open appliances are architected so that we can expand and change their capabilities by adding protocol and application plug-ins. These plug-ins can be the basis for either complete new product packages or options that can be purchased and used with standard packages.

The following items are being considered as future additions, or enhancements, to the S4 Open product line. Please contact me (details are in my profile) if you have an interest in seeing these, or other, interfaces developed. The order in which these interfaces are developed, and how they are packaged, will be determined in large part by customer input.

S4 Open: OPC N1 Router
S4 Open: BACnet N1 Router
S4 Open: SNMP N2 Router
S4 Open: BACnet SNMP Router
S4 Open: Metasys N2 Integrator
S4 Open: BACnet RS-232 Serial Interface Integrator
S4 Open: OPC RS-232 Serial Interface Integrator

Aboundi power line carrier support
DALI Lighting control interface support
Modbus TCP/IP
Modbus SerialTL/1 interface processor (Legacy Telco standard Command Line interface)
TCS/Basys native interface

Let me know how you would rank these items in terms of importance to your business. Feel free to add anything additional that you believe would make our offerings more likely to be of benefit to you.

We are always in need of BAS equipment for testing in the S4 Group development lab. Let me know if you have any manufacturer's legacy BAS that you could make available to us. Part of the decision about which integrations to take on next will be determined by the availability of equipment, software, documentation, and a field test site for these legacy systems.

yeah, I been a trophy fish hunter for awhile now, I thought you may appreciate that one :D

That one was a little over 9 feet in length and to guess on the weight, 400 LB+, on the surf, not in a boat, its something to catch fish like that on the beach, there is most certainly a special tactic to it ;)

That one was "Released" back to fight another day in the OBX, I custom make my own stuff and well, lets just say it's a sickness of mine, major dollars, for?? but I enjoy it :D

I missed that NY state record by ounces a few years back on Steelhead "If" I would have pulled out and weighed it in, I probably would have it, maybe next time ?

I have that pic hanging on me wall, I will have to scan it in and send it to you, pretty fish :D
