Rangel Failed to Report $75,000 in Income
Representative Charles B. Rangel has earned more than $75,000 in rental income from a villa he has owned in the Dominican Republic since 1988, but never reported it on his federal or state tax returns, according to a lawyer for the congressman and documents from the resort.
Mr. Rangel, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, which writes the federal tax code, bought the beachfront villa at the Punta Cana Yacht Club and has received twice-yearly payments from the resort, which rents the property for $500 or more per night.
...Mr. Davis said the congressman did not realize he had to declare the money as income, and was unaware of the semiannual payments from the resort because his wife, Alma, handled the family finances and conferred with their accountant, John Viardi, on tax matters.
So, this hasn't been a question for him, his wife or accountant for 20 years!! And he's part of the group that writes federal tax code.

He's exactly the type of "entrenched beaureacrat" that we heard McCain referring to in his speech last night.
Any man that stands shoulder to shoulder with the Clinton's and supports their garbage, thinks a lie from his own mouth is different than a lie from the mouth of others.
He's a despicable as Jackson, Sharpton and the rest of their clan.
There's absolutely no way he didn't know that what he was doing was illegal.

I really don't like ole froggy Rangel but I can empathize with him even respect his answer.
Our tax codes are so burdensome and convoluted; I don't know how anyone can muddle through them.

No doubt our tax codes are pathetic but....
Sorry, I cannot sympathize with a man who quickly stands in judgement of his republican counterparts with his incessant posturing to the media about their need for more ethical conduct and yet can't figure out that he needs to be sure INCOME is reported to the IRS.
Knowing his position, there's absolutely no way he couldn't have been aware of his need to report income.
Moe, Larry and Curly would have known better.
Let the bleeding hearts cry for him.
He's adept at getting their attention.

The codes are 'so burdensome and convoluted' exactly because of people like him--it's his committee!
Regardless, he knew he had the joint, knew he was getting money from it and didn't disclose or report it. If he's that stupid then he's too stupid to write laws or 'code' for the rest of us.

SO if he can't figure out the tax code, I guess we're all exempt as well...............:D

The only fair tax is the Fair Tax Plan. No paper work, no IRS, no accountants, no lawyers, no prison time, no tax preparers, no hidden income, and no big brother trying to look over your shoulder and try to find you cheating.

I like that idea.
A consumption tax would hamstring the liberals efforts to take more money out of my wallet and that's probably why they ignore an real changes in the tax code.

Misjudged you razor. I had you pegged for Democrat after you made a joke about Jessie Helms a while back (pissed me off). You do need to be watch it and don't go after the good members here on this forum the conservative ones that is and I am not talking about myself either. That's also why I assumed you to be a lefty because not only you didn't give a bio, you took some shots on some folks I like here. Oh well you seem to be on the right track now so to speak. You see I can make a mistake once in a while also.:)
