Here's how I boil this debate down:
Do you consider yourself a socialist? simple yes or no answer. No discussion. No middleground. Any adult human being should be able to answer that one without shame or obfuscation.
Once you have answered yes or no, then you can add on your explanatory material. After a few posts, I'll make my point. If you cannot first answer with a simple yes or no, then please save us all from your rhetoric on this thread.
Thanks in advance.

You really don't want a discussion at all do you. You just want to grandstand.

LOL
How can you elicit yes or no responses and then expect a discussion?
Who's going to get to do the discussing? You?:D
If you're referring to a socialist in the context of government, then no, I'm not a socialist, although even a capatilist society does employ some socialist concepts.

Apparently so. I asked for a simple yes or no first. If you can comply with that, then you are free to ramble on all you want. Why can't you answer a simple yes or no? Are you embarrassed at how you would have to answer? If not, then answer yes or no, or you can sit on the side and think what you like. Nobody is limiting a discussion here and nobody, at least not me, is grandstanding. I asked for a simple yes or no because I anticipated there would be some who were uncomfortable with how they would have to honestly reply and therefore would feel the need to "explain" their position.
Do you wish to answer yes or no? If not, please refrain from futher discussion on this thread. You are free to post elsewhere but I am asking that anyone posting on this thread observe this simple courtesy. Thank you for your cooperation.

Yes, I am a socialist and I like to grandstand.
See, that wasn't as hard as you tried to make it! ;)

I don't wish to answer yes or no unless I can elaborate on my answer.
And I'm really not sure why you insist on trying to dictate the course of any input on the thread.
But, I'll leave you alone even though I'd like nothing more than to tell you that I'm not obligated to answer they way you wish and can answer however I'd like to answer.;)
Good luck with it.

razorwit, you can elaborate on your answer, once you've stated it.
The reason I asked everyone to first state yes or no is because I wanted to see who had conviction in their beliefs. Also, you are free to answer however you'd like. I have no power here. I am just asking each person to examine their conscience and state it out loud proudly. I'm not pressuring anybody to tell us anything about yourselves you don't want us to know. You have the right to silence without any discredit.
If you feel strongly one way or the other, I just ask that you state it first then you can explain, qualify it, or elaborate.
Thanks for participating.

No.
It is our duty to others to help them privately, not publicly.
Here is the opposite approach (http://mises.org/story/3098), but not by who you would "suspect".

I agree with the Doctor in that it is our moral obligation to help the less fortunate. It is however not correct or legal for the government in any form to extract money from its citizens and disseminate that money to others of any ilk.
In another thread it was stated that Republicans/conservatives did not believe in helping others but Dem's did. That is a false assertion, in fact Christian's/Conservatives/Republicans give far more in charitable money's each year than do lib's/democrats. Lib's talk a good game but do not follow through they would rather the government take my money and spend it than allowing me on whom to provide assistance.
Case in point Barrack wants to give away $895,000,000 to the worlds poor, and the Democrats passed a bill recently that will provide medicine to anyone not in the US that has Aids/Malaria orTB. I am sorry but I don't feel that it is my responsibility to raise little Formica Dinette in Liberia out of poverty or treat Dan Okomo in Kenya for a disease.
See Razor not so hard state your classification then pontificate.

I'm far from being a socialist. I strongly believe in Capitalism. I don't believe in Party politics, where Republicans are fascist and Democrats are communist.
