View Full Version : Trane Voyager LON info needed

New installation. We have a number of Trane Voyagers with LON on-site. Power has not yet been applied - it's not available to the building until next week.

I need to find what profile (Specific Program ID) is in each of the Voyagers before startup. No literature inside the units. We also have Intellipaks on-site, with the literature present with them. I've found the profile info for the Intellipaks, and downloaded the XIF's for them - no problem there.

The problem lies with the Voyagers. How can I find out the profiles supplied with them. I think there are only two available - DAC and SCC, but how to determine ahead of power-up which unit has a particular profile?

Local office not much help; they don't seem to understand LON too well. They are saying each unit's profile is unique. True for Neuron ID, but not the profile.

HELP!! (please)

Thanks,
Ben

They are probably SCC, I believe the DAC profile is used if unit is serving a VAV system. However following the advise of a trusted fellow forum contributor (Dapper) you would be much better off extracting the XIF file from one of the units, the files available online are out of date. Can you hook up some temporary power to get 24 volts to the unit and read the XIF file?

Did not know that, Thanks

I don't think the voyager xif's have changed since Tyge was a pup

Whoa! Where's that 'Easy' button? :p
Only wish the locals knew it that well.

Tyge? Wow, you are really dating yourself.
In the Voyagers I haven't seen a change in about 2 years but not sure which rev. is on LonMarks site. The WSHP xifs seem to change more frequently but have been the same for a while now.

Just curious:

If the Intellipaks are LCI-I, wouldn't the Voyagers be an LCI-V? Where does the LCI-R come in? Reliatel? If so, does the color code still apply to the LCI-V?

All Voyagers now have the Trane 'Reliatel' control package, thus the 'R'. At one time, I believe there was a 'V' when there were 'Voyager' controls and the Precedent units had 'Reliatel'. Now they are all Reliatel. I'm sure you can guess what the 'C' is for as well.

That is true for new units with a factory installed LCI-R but may not be the case for a field installed board. They are the same physical hardware minus the color and can be flashed to go either way in the field.

Thanks for the replies.
We are now finding that there is a new, unexpected device in the unit that is causing questions.
Instead of finding an LCI-R card, there is an MP-580 installed. It has the neuron ID label, but other than that, there's nothing else there telling us what profile is being used.
The Trane guy says it was installed by a company - (KPP?) after leaving the factory, but before arriving on-site.
An ideas of what can be done with this?

Thanks,
Ben

MP580 is a Trane Summit/Tracer product. Part of Trane's setup I believe. It should have neuron ID and is a LON product.

I believe odd #s are factory installed and even # are field installed
EX: MP580field
MP581 factory
ZN517factory
ZN518 field

I think I am right

The mp580 is a fully programable controller that can have no profile, an SCC or DAC profile. Pretty much anything goes with it and I don't think you will be able to do much with out some one telling you what is what in the programing and point mapping. Chances are points aren't even mapped out for you do do anything with. This sounds like a one off special sequence unit to be modified with a programable controller. There is an XIF for the 580 but as said you will have a hard time telling what is what as there aren't really any descriptive point names contained in it. The programable controller in it may be why you were told each unit's profile was unique.

As far as the model # 580/581 and such with the exception of the 517 the stated info is sorta right. The odd # is a field isntalled controller and the even # is factory. It really makes no difference as far as programing and integration is concerned as they are the same controller aside from the chasis. The 517 is only a field installed controller and has no factory mounted counter part, same goes for a 503 and 501.

"The Factory" does not put Mp-580s in any rooftops units, only air handlers. This is a special unit pimped by someone. Not sure by who with the info provided. Might have a special tag besides the normal model and serila if done by a proffesional place. The 580 would require some programming to be able to control anything thru LON and you can see things but there is like 600 SNVTs in a 580, so without some documentation from "the pimper", "your hosed Tommy".

Is the 581 in the Intellipak or Voyager? I have seen both, there are a couple of places that Trane sends units too to get "customized" depending on the spec/sequence. This is essentially "factory" mounted, all though put on at a customization shop, it is still part of the unit and covered under warranty. If it is in the Ipak, more than likely is controlling the RAF speed. The only scenario I've seen a 580 in a Voyager is when they try to use it as a MAU. If it is in the IPAK, I would highly advise you to not even put it on the link, and leave it be, since it is mounted in the same cabinet as the VFD(s). If it is the voyager, you will need Tranes assistance in setting this up. The 580 will not need to be programmed(though it may need to be tweaked), it will be pre-programmed in either unit, most likely by the Grand Rapids office.

Anyone heard from Kwillmech in awhile? He used to be the Trane guru on here

The Voyager/580 is in fact being used as a MAU. Other than that, very little to go on. I was told the company that programmed the 580 was in Kentucky, though the person that told me this wasn't real sure of that.

You're going to want factory startup of this unit if, (I'm guessing but your heating section most likely has a power burner installed and the mp581 still needs to be programmed for this to control. the power burner voyager's we've seen need quite a bit of tweaking and aop setup to control burner actuator.) were at high altitude and these have taken as much as 16 hrs apiece on voyagers. also all of the units we've recieved never had any programming done on the mp580's

Kpp is another company besides the Grand Rapids Trane office that pimps units. Should be able to contact them and get some info. I know the Grand Rapids office sends a special packet with the units that gives contact info.

We call them Yellowrock units and you will need a start up by someone with rover that knows TGP because Yellowrock is famous for missing stuff when programming never heard of Kpp

We got the points matrix today from the MP581 'pimp' (love that reference).
I think we're on our way.

Thanks all,
Ben

Through the email thread grapevine, found the company name is KCC International, They appear to be very helpful when asking for info.

I've never had any dealings with KCC/KPP, just Yellowrock and Thybar, and every unit (Voyager MAU, or IPAK) has come programmed, it wouldn't make sense that it would come unprogrammed. What if Trane isn't the controls contractor?(which we have had on a couple of these) The start-up tech should have and know how to use rover for proper start-up.

I can think of 2 specific jobs that didn't come programmed one was from lexington w/power buner T-series, the other was thycurb w/power burner voyIII's.

Best place to go for files is

LonMark.org and look under certifications

Hey Ben,

I have a job that has a few Trane LON controllers on it that I need to bring points from into Plexus Altitude frontend. The LON Trane plugin works fine in our network tool (Circon Network Integrator) and shows the inputs and outputs with apparently correct values. My problem is that when I look at the points in the Altitude browser or Pilot there are like 600+ and I can’t seem to zero in on the ones that are being used so I can include them in the graphics.

Did the "points matrix" you referenced help you with the same sort of issue? if so, could you send it to me?
Thanks!

This thread is a year old, Ben hasn't been seen since April, hopefully someone else can help you.
