I have yet to see an official thread for this years comfortech so i thought i would take the liberty of starting one. I will be in Atlanta on for the event, and would like to meet up with some of the guys here on Wednesday night.
I will be competing in the NATE Top Tech Competition on Thursday and want to absorb some more knowledge from you guys before hand. Some of the greatest hvac minds visit this site daily. Im not aware if any of the other competitors are members here, so if not i am proud to represent hvac-talk.com in the competition

I had planned to be there, but found out today that I have to leave for Colorado on the 10th to pick up my daughter and grandkids and drive them back to SC while the son-in-law is being deployed back to Iraq. My boss and a couple of co-workers are still going down.

I will be there for the convention trade show Thursday and/or Friday.
Since I live in Atlanta, all the $$$ I can get out of the company is gas and goodies...
The HTalk booth is always located before you go into the convention show case area.. you can't miss us.
Mike says we are trying to get more give-a-way stuff.. SWAG if you must... it will all have the Htalk logo on it. Shirts and maybe more lapel pins.. not really sure.
Maybe this year maybe we can hold down the number of people just dropping by to use our computers for checking their email.

I'm hoping for a tour of the Chalet.
I'm about 40 miles north of where we will be staying.. that equates to an hour to three depending on the traffic load one way. Since they will be paving both north and south bound lanes of the connector during the evenings and weekends this week i would think it would take about 45 minutes just to get from the hotel to the outer limits of downtown.... :D
Yes, I do know a few short cuts.. and no, I will not share them with "The Editor" LOL
Oh yeah, JR.. it costs 30 bucks a day to park plus tip for the valet guy. Bring lots and lots of cash and empty your glove compartment.:D:eek::D

So how's the train from the airport? My flight got shoved back to a 5PM arrival, perfect - right at rush hour!
Here's the map and schedule.. http://www.itsmarta.com/getthere/schedules/index-rail.htm
Train isn't bad, a little hard with more than 1 suitcase to bring though. You will need to catch it at the airport, change at Five Points and go west one more stop. Seven stops from the airport and one stop west.. hummm 40 minutes of riding time.
If you take a cab you will be shelling out about 60 to 80 bucks unless they have a hotel bus to take... Call the Omni and ask when their bus comes.. 800-524-0500

There are still plenty of places to fall of the wagon in Atlanta, just not Buckhead, unless you like the fancy overpriced drinks at the fancy overpriced restaurants that retail the undersized portions. The Virginia Highland area has everyone from the wealthy to the weird, and strips of bars go to a little bar hopping. A few nice Pubs filled with good old fashion happy drunks and are relatively safe.
Sure ATL has a few bad spots, just as MSY and every other major city within our borders, however if you avoid the South West Section of ATL and limit activity and exposure on the South East section you should have no issues.
I have work it all, however I have many area's in those aforementioned that I had to strap on a .40 in a paddle holster for ease of viewing.
To re-iterate, do not cruise or explore the southern section of town, especially the southwestern section. Don't get me wrong, their are PLENTY of good folk in both sections [They are trapped and receive no help from local governments and authorities and put their faith in poorly chosen self righteous civic leaders who only fill their own pockets then disappear], however due to the local, city, and county governments unwillingness to deal with these areas [political favors, drug pipeline, etc.] they have been allowed to sink into near cannibalism
Stay north of I-20 whenever you explore and always keep your guard up, be awake and aware, and make eye contact with as many as possible. Those who walk around with their head's down and staring at their feet only stand out as "Wannabe Victims".
There are some great historical sites near to the city and north of the city that are safe and fun.
If your looking to save a few bucks, explore the Northwest side of town, just ½ or 45 minutes northwest of ATL are Marietta [Large Spread Out Small City with a center of the old downtown area that looks like the pictures of that area directly after the civil war, yes its been there that long]. Killer eating for much cheaper in Marietta, the next town north is Kennesaw, [The Great Train Chase started right there and they still have the General Steam Engine enclosed in an awesome museum that the Smithsonian help build. Also Kennesaw Mountain was a site for a Civil War Battle]. A few miles past that is Acworth, which is a mini land of lakes. Lake Acworth is a nice area to chill and picnic [Hominid history runs farther back then 6000 years in this area friends and I discovered a site dated back 4000 years, currently its under 20 feet of water]. Just north of there about 6 miles is Red Top Mountain State Park and another 6 miles is Cartersville [They have Etowah mounds their that Desoto Encountered as friendly people then later decided to kill when going back downstream.]
If you’re a civil war buff you may want to hit Pickets Mill, one of the few sites where the Confederates laid waste the Northern Aggressors [Hey when you live here long enough it becomes the War of Northern Aggression where the Dark and Light skin people fought side by side wearing the same uniform and receiving the same pay. Funny how you never read about those historical facts or how the Dark Skin solders of the North recieved no pay, no uniforms, and no guns and ammo until they where marched as one unit to their death. Nearly all the hand build earthworks are still in the area.
And don’t forget Roswell, no Aliens, however little nice parks, restaurants and much history just directly north of the big ATL.
If anyone wants any pointers, suggestions, or quick local research just drop me a message.
There is no reason to stay in Atlanta, their is far more fun just outside the madness of the city. Your only 2 hours drive from Chattanooga.
By the way, Georgia has some of the nicest State Parks and they are usually very clean and well kept, if you go, pay the 3 buck parking fee]
stay away from the Buckhead night life... if you go, wear a flack jacket in case of a drive by.
...and he joined a few days ago just to back me up with his first post... ohhhh the buckhead restaurant group will take your money that's for sure but if you know where they are you can still find a night life down there...
he's right about the south side.. I-20 and north unless you want to increase your odds of having trouble...
a little far with the time constraints to hit C'town... North burbs like Roswell, Alpharetta, Kennesaw, Woodstock, Canton is where I tool around...
been there with the .40 cal... used to work nights round lee st during remodels... yikes.
All in all Atlanta is a great city but like any others you just need to know where to go and where to turn around.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the show. As one of the staff of Penton that puts this show together (about 9 months in the making) it is always nice to hear positive feedback.
Save the date for Nashville. This will be my 3rd time back there and honestly I went to the first one as a temp helper and it pulled me right in. Now I have one of the management positions of this show, and wouldn't trade it for the world. You won't be disappointed.
