The liberals want this, to shut down talk radio
(conservatives) and have the government tell
us what is fair to talk about.
Another something to look foward too.

The Dems try this every time they get into power, it's nicknamed the "Hush Rush" bill. It should concern the voters when either party wants to restrict free speech. What would be next, a government ran media like communist countries and dictatorships have?
Be afraid, be very afraid.

At least we still have alternatives to those though. If certain people have their way that could change.
As to the "Fairness Doctrine", I can't see how that would even be constitutional.

The thing is, the "Fairness Doctrine" would also apply to the left wing radio shows (few as they are), so they could be censored too.
Let them all speak freely, the ratings (AKA free market system) will determine who stays on the air and what content is broadcasted.

How is that?
as a matter of fact, it's not a new thing...
The Fairness Doctrine was introduced in the U.S. in 1949 (Report on Editorializing by Broadcast Licensees, 13 F.C.C. 1246 [1949]). The doctrine remained a matter of general policy, and was applied on a case-by-case basis until 1967, when certain provisions of the doctrine were incorporated into FCC regulations. [2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairness_Doctrine#cite_note-1) It did not require equal time for opposing views, but required that contrasting viewpoints be presented. The Fairness Doctrine had two basic elements: It required broadcasters to devote some of their airtime to discussing controversial matters of public interest, and to air contrasting views regarding those matters. Stations were given wide latitude as to how to provide contrasting views: It could be done through news segments, public affairs shows or editorials.
But of course, the peeons in the gipper's cabinet thought that it did not represent corporate America well enough, and sure as hell, just like their moronic tax cut, they eliminated it too...
Under FCC Chairman Mark S. Fowler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_S._Fowler), a communications attorney who had served on Ronald Reagan's campaign staff in 1976 and 1980, the commission began to repeal parts of the Fairness Doctrine, announcing in 1985 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985) that the doctrine hurt the public interest and violated the First Amendment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution) .
Hurt the first amendment? yeah right.
The next year, a defunct sportscaster, who got fired for being a moron, started his own talk radio show. His name was Rush Limbaugh....
And the rest is history.

Well, it's obvious, Ole, you are against "corporate America". Sorry to tell you but "corporate America" is part and parcel to the free enterprise system on which the economic stability of our nation rests. Therefore, you are against the economic stability of our nation.
Go home, Ole. I'm sure you'll be much happier in Europe.
