In this news article about a man arrested for allegedly claiming thoughts of killing Obama dwell on the threat to Obama while generally glossing over the same type of threat for President Bush; http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/08/07/politics/main4329138.shtml

To make things worse, this guy is only charged with saying he would kill Obama and not for saying he would like to assassinate a standing president. WTF?

(AP) A man who authorities said was keeping weapons and military-style gear in his hotel room and car appeared in court Thursday on charges he threatened to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/08/22/politics/main3193625.shtml).

Raymond Hunter Geisel, 22, was arrested by the Secret Service on Saturday in Miami and was ordered held at Miami's downtown detention center without bail Thursday by a federal magistrate.

A Secret Service affidavit charges that Geisel made the threat during a training class for bail bondsmen in Miami in late July. According to someone else in the 48-member class, Geisel allegedly referred to Obama with a racial epithet and continued, "If he gets elected, I'll assassinate him myself."

Obama was most recently in Florida on Aug. 1-2 but did not visit the South Florida area.

Another person in the class quoted Geisel as saying that "he hated George W. Bush and that he wanted to put a bullet in the president's head," according to the Secret Service.

Geisel denied in a written statement to a Secret Service agent that he ever made those threats, and the documents don't indicate that he ever took steps to carry out any assassination. He was charged only with threatening Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, but not for any threat against President Bush.

Geisel's court-appointed attorney declined comment. The charge of threatening a major candidate for president or vice president carries a maximum prison sentence of five years.

The Obama campaign declined comment Thursday on the alleged threat.

In the interview with a Secret Service agent, Geisel said "if he wanted to kill Senator Obama he simply would shoot him with a sniper rifle, but then he claimed that he was just joking," according to court documents.

A search of Geisel's 1998 Ford Explorer and hotel room in Miami uncovered a loaded 9mm handgun, knives, dozens of rounds of ammunition including armor-piercing types, body armor, military-style fatigues and a machete. The SUV, which has Maine license plates, was wired with flashing red and yellow emergency lights.

Geisel told the Secret Service he was originally from Bangor, Maine, and had been living recently in a houseboat in the Florida Keys town of Marathon, according to court documents. He said he used the handgun for training for the bail bondsman class, had the knives for protection and used the machete to cut brush in Maine.

Authorities in Maine said Geisel pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal threatening after a 2007 incident and spent 48 hours in a Bangor jail.

Police in Hampden, a town just outside of Bangor, received a complaint from Geisel's brother on Oct. 18, 2007 that Geisel had threatened him with a knife, Hampden police Sgt. Dan Stewart said. Geisel was charged with criminal threatening and terrorizing; the second charge was later dropped.

The Secret Service affidavit said Geisel told agents that he suffered from psychiatric problems including post-traumatic stress disorder, but he couldn't provide the names of any facilities where he sought treatment.

These guys are always out there at all times, nothing new here but the media making a big deal because Obama is the "different" candidate. Just another way for the media to give Obama more free press.

Hell, I vowed to take out Carter if he won re-election:cool:

Other then having mouthed off in front of whiners who wanted to make themselves look important, this guy did nothing wrong. Do you have any idea how many business people who travel pack heat?

I thought that true armour piercing ammo was illegal to be owned by civilians and carried a major Federal offense. The media just likes to spew out cliche's to sell more hype.

Besides, any decent assassin is going to go for a head shot. Armour piercing bullets are more desired by gang bangers who don't know how to hold a weapon properly so they need to try to just hit the biggest part of a body with as many rounds as possible.

That's BS robo. I have brought armored piercing ammo at gun shows. (Black tipped). Hell I have brought armored piercing tracer rounds (black and red tipped). I don't know if I could buy the military ammo like that today but I sure have. I know you can buy "full metal jacketed" all day long at the gun shows. Stop in one and load up and you can still go visit your old nemesis:D:D:D.

Robo is correct, It is federal Crime to be in possession of "armor Piercing" cartridges, does mean you can't go find some, but is a federal crime.

Also, 'black tipped' doesn't mean it's armor piercing, remember the Black talon???? that was not a AP round.

Probably some stupid thing I got from some stupid tv show. I buy full jacketed bullets all the time. I've messed around with some homemade mercury tipped rounds, but I know they are illegal so I don't keep any on hand.

If is military ammo (full metal jacket) like the 303 rounds I got it sure is and like I said I brought some armored piercing tracer rounds also. They were cool lighting up the night at an abandoned rock quarry way out in the country in Tenn years ago with my Lewis MG spitting them out. Clean as a hounds tooth now. Don't care to join Eric Rudoff in his new digs.

Just curious; why would there even be an armour piercing tracer round? And remember; tracer rounds work both ways.

Typically you have one out of 5 rounds with a tracer in a belt. They work great at night and you can see where the **** the rounds are going at night. You can of course see them in daylight also but at night they are a great help to see where your shooting. We used them in Nam mainly on the 50 cal M1 MGs. Hell they even issued us explosive 50 rounds during the fall of 69 but stopped that after to many "friendly fire" incidents. A good friend of mine lost the end of two of his fingers when loading the belt in his 50 it slipped and he tried to grab it before it hit the deck of his track and a few rounds exploded. They detonated on impact. A few more troops were hurt when the rounds would hit tree branches over head and got shrapnel wounds. Yeah those were the good old days. We could "recon" by fire back then when out in the jungle. In Afgan they aren't allowed to do that because of the commie press is always around to make them look like the bad guy. A army ranger told me about that. Any more questions robo. Be glad to answer I've never been afraid to talk about our great adventure. Its a shame the commie dems stabbed us in the back and made us pull out when we had it won. Oh well sin loy (sorry about that)

So, does anyone here actually think that that guy in Florida was every actually going to try to harm Obama? Anyone else thing like I do that the government has really overexaggerated the situation and the media is using it to gain sympathy for Obama to add to the guilt of being a racist if you don't believe Obama is the right person for the presidency?

If the threat is really being taken seriously, then why has the threat against President Bush been taken seriously? Are we going to have to be constantly worried and even more vigilant then ever because we may have a "Black" president?

McCain is correct in reiterating what so many already know and are saying in that Obama is just an icon, another celebrity.

OK, this Time Magazine article not only dwells on Barack Obama being Black or biracial, it also uses a strong term supporting John McCain's claim of Obama being more of a celebrity by using the term "Obamania".

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1584736,00.html

I am having a real issue with Obama beating a drum that I don't know how to dance to. I can't help it! I'm White!

your kidding? :eek::p
