The one good thing is that there is a law that we can't skirt in this matter of high energy prices.
It is this: high prices fix high prices.
Demand will be reduced, and supply will be R & Dd, meaning researched and developed. It is just a matter of to what extent the masses clamor for "the government" to do something before some optimistic innovator comes up with something, and gets it through into the market to make changes.
Here's to hoping that the innovators get through FIRST.
But high prices fix high prices. It holds true for any commodity.

Free market is corrupted though, by those tree-hugging leg-humper folks.... Cannot drill off of the coast[80%] or anwar. Coal is considered evil. Nuclear is bad, according to the same dimwits. They expect wind and sun will solve everything, in spite of the fact wind and sun are main reasons we need oil, coal, gas, and even nukejuice.
Cheney is on-point, we need to be drilling. China is only exploring/drilling, not drilling/pumping,.. but they aint puttin holes in the ground for fun,... they intend to pump and any american that reads that article posted should see that.

Not only is Nuclear bad, its the most expensive way to produce power.
Kind of like inventing a new deadly poison, without having an andidote.
How many billion does it cost to produce a nuclear reactor and the disposal/reclamation costs involved. If you took those same billions and invested in alernative technolgy, we would be way ahead of the game.
Each nuclear reactor costs between 3 to 5 billion, just to construct. If you took that amount of money and installed $20.000 worth of solar panels in new energy efficient homes with reverse metering, not only would it beat nuclear to dead, but would produce a hell of a lot more jobs, and would give our labor market a large boost.
We need to look at all energy usage locations, and use the local recources like wind, sun and water to make ourselfs not only energy independent but keep our energy costs down.
This country needs to go back to their roots, we used to be inovators, now were just followers of the same old tired "lets send our young people to die, so we can have our monopo-lies".
America has gotton lazy and stupid, the proof of this is looking at the upcomming election choices.

I am no big nuke-juice advocate. Point made, but if private companies want to invest then let them. Coal is a grand energy source and offshore drilling is natural harvesting.

The reason Cheney MIGHT be on point would only be if he were advocating that free-market forces do the drilling. The free market is NOT corrupted by environmentalist wackos--the regulation side (meaning, the gov't) is the side that is corrupted by those blokes.
So-called "free market" folks come in different varieties only because we've accepted the notion that people must be forced to conform by a man with a gun.
True free-market folks can be found for example at mises(dot)org
or lewrockwell(dot)com
Just as examples AS OPPOSED to people who accept all sorts of government regulation of industry with the cry " but the railroad barons...."
Please don't lump environmentalist wackos in with the folks you might find at either of those institutions which I mentioned.
They are anything but getting in the way like the tree huggers DO.
Now there might be an adjustment that will become more long-term with regard to the demand for oil. Simply coercing the Saudis to give it up is not in the interest of a free market.
A highly-managed by the Fed market, YES. But a free market--not so much.

Problem being if a bunch of oil were made available Americans wouldn't have learned a thing. They would be dusting off their SUV's and guzzling again.
And Roy, I agree with what you said about nuclear.
We had a workable energy policy in the late 70's that was designed to free us of foreign oil. Guess who trashed it??
If the policy had been kept we wouldn't be where we are now.
The best thing although painful would be for Americans to kick the habit.
It's interesting though that Saudis are kicking up production just in time for the elections.

There's a finite limit to how much oil there is. Drilling more will help, but we're going to run out eventually. It hurts, but the runup in prices is the only way to get us to cut back our use.
More solar and wind power is needed. Unfortunately, they can't and won't ever supply the quantity of power our society needs. We've pretty much maxed how much hydroelectric power we can generate. That leaves us with natural gas, coal, and nuclear. Natural gas is starting to go the way of oil, with increasing costs and a limited supply. There's plenty of coal and nuclear though.
Comparing coal and nuclear the choice is clear. Nuclear is safer, cleaner, and doesn't trash the environment like coal does. The only reason nuclear reators are so expensive is because of all the assinine requirements on their construction and the inevitable delays made by the politicians and their kowtowing to the anti-nuke paranoids.

I don't understand how an alarmist, knee jerk reaction to a possible alarmist comment can possibly make anything better in the world. Under the very worst scenario, which would be that Vice President Cheney hyped the source of his comments, it is not even close to being a lie. Since there is a basis for the sources errant claim, other then being guilty of not checking his sources or deliberately quoting known errant sources for political gain, what the Vice President said was not at all a lie.
"We were under fire and had to run from the plane immediately on landing" is a better example of a downright lie. "Selma gave my parents the inspiration for my being able to be born" is another example of a downright lie. Making exaggerated claims that someone is lying when they have support for what they have commented on just makes you less believable, which is getting kind of close to lying.

Even worse, usually intelligent people rationalize voting Democratic when it makes absolutely no sense to do so.
Over the weekend I was with my wife's family for Father's Day. My wife is a Jew and so I usually have some interestingly opposing differences of opinions with most of her liberal minded relatives. I asked her one uncle how a Jew could possibly justify voting for a man who has had ties with Islam within his family and who is known to support the views of Louis Farrakhan, a Muslim who outwardly condemns Jews? His answer; all of those allegations are Republican rhetoric made up by right wing nut cases.
In other words; he is just burying his head in the sand to justify voting for a man who no Jew should ever consider voting for.

Cars do generate a lot of pollution, as does burning coal. It's not a question of what energy fuel is safe. None of them are 100% safe. It turns out that nuclear is the safest.
We don't have to give up our cars. We just have to pay more for the energy to drive them.

It's the group that attacks with weapons like argumental fallacies, cheap shots, name calling to attempt to support what often in not supportable due to flaws in their thinking and an unwillingness to tolerate others ideas or conclusions. He can't be bad! After all he worked for government (with breaks with greedy / oil/services company's – living off the government/you) all his life.
But go ahead and blame everyone but YOUR OWN.
Illegals , dark color people , gays , working people in general , poor people , senors , students , liberals , progressives , democrats , Independents , and many many more - “unless there just like YOU” of course”.
Us against them is old – unless your Cheyenne / Rover or bushiness hold-overs – just look at last election, that was nothing compared to what is going to happen, can anyone say LANDSLIDE
Back to subject / Cheyenne is a Lier/thief/ and sick scum – but otherwise a human (besides pace maker keeping him ticking) I think.

Gang of Four is not ARPC.
It's the group that attacks with weapons like argumental fallacies, cheap shots, name calling to attempt to support what often in not supportable due to flaws in their thinking and an unwillingness to tolerate others ideas or conclusions. A general contempt for others of different political persuasions..
And to perpetuate right wing falsehoods like "Liberal Media" "Dems are commies" and more.
They must be people who have been banned because some of that stuff is against the rules now.
All viewpoints are welcome in ARP.....as long as they are within the boundaries of the rules.

Funny you were describing most of the liberals on this thread. They are the only ones calling other members names and launching personal attacks. I am not aware of any conservatives or "right wing" members engaging in this activity. Of course we do call a spade a spade so to speak when describing the leftest media but do not engage in attacks on other members. Please correct your posts accordingly. Thanks Glenn :)

Show us where it is a fact that Vice President Cheney or any of the other hundreds of politicians, conservative and liberal, who believed Saddam Hussein's claim to having weapons of mass destruction "knew" that he did not. You sir are not only deliberately making a false statement (LYING), but are also performing the usual ultra liberal manipulation dance.

When Bush was campaigning to be president he stated that Saddam was the devil and he would do what it takes to overthrow him if/when he was elected. I didn't vote for him because it was clear he would get us into a war if he had the opportunity. The majority of Americans didn't agree with me and voted him into office.
911 was his "pass" to start the Iraq war and his Saddam agenda started immediately.
All of the propaganda buildup to justify the invasion was blatant. Each "fact" the administration came up was replaced by a new "fact" once the prior one was proven wrong. Towards the end it was "Well, he could make WMDs so we must invade." Heck, my neighbor could take a baseball bat to the neighborhood kids. Should we throw him in jail because he could, even if there's no evidence whatsoever he would?
It was clear we were being lied to, anyone who opened their eyes could see it (and it goes on today). The stupid thing is we accept those lies as if they were true.
We, as a nation, got what we voted for.

"We have for months now heard plenty of false arithmetic and lame excuses for why we must pursue a preemptive war of aggression against an impoverished third world nation 6000 miles from our shores that doesn’t even possess a navy or air force, on the pretense that it must be done for national security reasons.
For some reason such an attack makes me feel much less secure, while our country is made more vulnerable.
Congress must consider the fact that those with military experience advocate a "go slow" policy, while those without military experience are the ones demanding this war.
We cannot ignore the fact that all of Iraq’s neighbors oppose this attack, and our European allies object as well.
If the military and diplomatic reasons for a policy of restraint make no sense to those who want a war, I advise they consider the $100 billion cost that will surely compound our serious budget and economic problems we face here at home. We need no more false arithmetic on our budget or false reasons for pursuing this new adventure into preemptive war and worldwide nation-building."

Fool. ( go running to the arp police now). You have referred to me and others as being commie supporting facists liberals on numerous occasions. Others have seen it. I've read posts where others have accused you od the same stuff. Maybe we're all a bunch of lying liberal nuts huh? And name one thing that I have ever said that implies I think like a communist. Just one. That is if you're done complaining about breaking the precious rules on here.
Stop your lying air. I have never called you or anyone else on this forum a commie and I have an open offer to you or anyone else may claim such a lie like you are doing now and have done to show me one just one post. If you do this then I won't post on ARP again. You can not you are just a liar and like to throw slander at me and others who do not share your leftest views on politics.
I will let Robo answer the thinking like commies comment. I just agreed with him. You are the only one I know of who continually engages in name calling on this forum in violation of the rules. When the rules were published I read, understood and agreed with them. They make sense and you can not and will not find me in violation of the rules other than when I was called names in an unprovoked attack by you and I only used the same name back to you which you called me. I won't even do that now since I was corrected by a mod for doing such. When are you going to stop lying and show us a post. I want anyone on this forum to do so. Nobody can since I haven't so when are you going to stop the lying and smear campain? All you can do is to repeat the lies but you can not show one once of proof. Yes you are the biggest liar on this forum and everyone can see that.

ARP rules as stated:
1) Flame wars will not be allowed. Keep your discussions civil and watch the name calling. If you feel yourself getting mad, back away from the computer until you cool off. We encourage debate and discussion, but it must be kept within reasonable standards.
Any poster who has received a caution, an edit, or a disciplinary action from ARPC, may challenge our action once and once only for further ARPC review by e-mailing us at hvactalk.arp@gmail.com . After having heard his/her case in the appeal, the final decision will be rendered without further discussion. Any argument, disagreement, reference to the final decision, or reference to said proceedings on the forum will subject the challenger to possible Administrator sanctions. All discussions between ARPC and violator will take place via email. NO discussion concerning the initial action or any following discussion/actions will take place on the forum...period.

Yes, it has, and it's getting quite boring. And it's sad that there even is an ARPC, in my opinion. But then, i'm not a fan of censorship.
There is no such thing as censorship on a "private" website...you could leave the site?
If this keeps up, I will not ask you to leave, you will all be gone. Clear enough?

Mrs reb, I have just read your post after publishing my last one. I will now refrain from pointing out the lies about me from air which can easily be verified but he keeps saying the same thing over and over again so I have kept repeating the falsehoods of his statement. If I did not do this then someone might actually think he was telling the truth which he is not and I do get tired of this sort of thing. No one else will correct him if they would then I wouldn't have defended myself. But I wish that anyone who actually feels that those charges are true to please publish the link and you will not hear from me again. I do obey the rules but I do have a right to defend myself against wild and unfounded charges. That is the American way. Thank you, Glenn

Iran was allied with the Soviets because the US refused to establish relations with Iran after the Shah's regime collapsed. The president that could have established relations was Reagan.
Maybe we should blame him. Or maybe we should blame Alexander the Great because he stabilized(destabilized?) the entire region.

WOW!!!!! DUDE!!!!!
Have you never heard of the iranian hostage crisis!!!!! During the carter administration?!? You expect Reagan would show up in iran with a tray of tea and crumpets or something to make freinds after that attack on the USA? IRAN IS HOSTILE, and has been since their little 'revolution' back in the 70s, before Reagan.
Allied with soviets or not, iran was a hostile, but that alliance made them twice as evil as we had been fighting directly and indirectly with the communists since about 1950.
Seriously, google it, ''iranian hostage crisis carter''. Reagan took office 1981.

Hey Air, I've been here awhile and what the Gang of Four is trying to do is purge you, Remember Stalin?? They are sooooo comfortable with what they think and wanting to just have a space where their ideas are NEVER challenged and they can live forever in their permanent deceptions. Everyone is encouraged to leave.
This has never been a place for ideas only as a format for not even conservative thought as it misses even the most elemental understanding of conservatism.
I think only myself and the Doctor have mentioned Kirk as a conservative thinker. So there you go!
They really don't know a thing about conservative thought and also seem incapable of learning, quite comfortable in their comfort zone.
Take comfort though.. Their time is ending and they can wallow in their discontent.

Oh I figured that out the first time I came here. They freely bash and label anyone that disagrees with their warped views, but take offense when someone does it to them. They seemingly have no idea what makes someone a liberal or conservative. It's amusing watching their assinine responses though, even when they never actually respond to anything.

Well, I'm going to address this post.
First off, no one has yet to tell me who the gang of four is. Is it the ARPC? If so, you should know that there are 5 of us and we are not all conservative. One member is pretty liberal actually, a couple others somewhat moderate.
If you're implying that there's some conspiracy to get rid of non-conservatives, that's just crazy. Fact is, a slight majority of the people we've banned or given points to were right of center. We don't care what your positions are, as long as you follow the rules you can believe whatever you want and discuss anything that's even close to being within the recommended topics of this forum.
And BTW...we are not trying to "purge" anyone. If we wanted to get rid of someone we could do so easily. We have the authority, all we have to do is hit the button and poof. But that's not what we're about, we want to build the forum, just within the boundaries of the rules. Play by the rules and you can hold whatever beliefs you want and still be in good standing here.
We (ARPC) know that the forum will only grow by having interesting discussion. For that we need different and opposing viewpoints. A "right wing circle jerk", to quote Oloe, would be pretty boring; we need all sides involved.
Do you want to make the forum better? Then quit whining and post interesting topics. Make positive contributions to the forum. Discuss and debate, just do so within the rules and you'll get no flack from ARPC.
If the "Gang of Four" is not ARPC, then who is it? It has been suggested that the term orginated way back before the forum was cleaned up. If that's the case, the "Gang of Four is probably gone....banned because they broke the rules. I can think of a couple of former posters that would fit what you describe, but they are gone.
And BTW...For the record....Geer was never banned or even given points. He left on his own after James was banned. He's welcome to come back and post anytime.
Now...here's the warning part. As with anything, there are right and wrong ways to complain. If you have a problem or concern with the ARP forum, take it up with us in private. Either e-mail us or if you need something quick, use the "report post" button. If you e-mail us Bootlin will get it. Give it some time, he's not by a computer all the time. He'll post the e-mail in our private forum and we'll have a fair discussion about it. If there's an urgent need like a spammer or a rules violation, use the report post button. I will be notified almost immediately, as will the regular mods. We'll take the appropriate action.
Folks, this is your forum, the ARPC is only here to keep the content within reasonable boundaries. We are, for all practical purposes, the moderators here. Since it's your forum, make it what you want it to be. Do you want it to be a fun place where you can engage in interesting discussion, or a place where people come to gripe and whine? I know which I would prefer.

Contribute to anything but discourse? And why would anyone read just a response if it IS a response to a previous post and the previous post is provided? If you TAKE IT WITHOUT, isn't that what the media is accused of doing constantly? Taking a speakers words out of context?
Discourse (L. discursus, "running to and from") means either "written or spoken communication or debate" or "a formal discussion or debate" [1]. The term is often used in semantics and discourse analysis.
If he is contributing to discourse, is he not contributing to the communication or debate? See, that's where I really don't understand what the diddly you meant. Hence my post referencing it.
