6-wire to 5-wire heat pump

Replaced Trane Heat Pump with Amana heat pump. Trane was 6-wire, Amana is 5 wire. Auxilary lights comes on at t-stat. I'm thinking change t-stat to 5-wire to remove 24 volt back feed, Home cooling fine.
