View Full Version : Digital Gauges?

Any know of a particular brand and model of good, reliable digital gauges which will do both high and low pressure refrigerants? For example 410, 22, 134, 123, 11 etc. Would like to purchase a pair of digitals which will do both high and low pressure refrigerants. I know the digimon will do these refrigerants, but have seen poor feedback in this site so I will not purchase that brand.

Trutechtools.com has some of the older 523 instruments that would be ideal for your application. They have R-11 in the refrigerant profile already, and because they use a absolute pressure sensor, great for low pressure applications. About $350-450 depending on your need for the software. Otherwise it is the Testo 556 or 560

I have the first generation 523 and has leak test and data logging mode something the 2nd generation does not have. It's a great digital manifold and is worth every dollar.

Jim does the first gen operate at the same ambient as the 2nd on the cold end? I thought it was -4°F on the 2nd
And can the display on the 1st. gen only display pressures or super heat/sub cool or can you chose both at the same time?
MechAcc How are the R.A.'s working?
Any comments yet?

I gotta tell ya I just fell into the digital club this morning, picked up a set of Refco Digimon guages. They are pretty handy for sure so we will see how they preform. So far so good although the temp probe is not really to my liking since I am used to the Fluke 52 digital thermometer with their temperature clamp. I ran a test with the both of them and they are equal. To use the Refco one you have to velcro it to the pipe then insulate it which is sort of time consuming. Maybe they will come out with a clamp to use with it.

can you just insulate and strap at the same time with elect. tape?

tried that first but it runs about 2-3 degrees higher, especially when it's in the mid 90's

Sorry to hear that you spent your money on the Digimon gauges, that are horrible! But good luck.

I used the rig yesterday on an auto a/c and the vac for the first time and I'm not impressed. The only reason I went that route was for the built in micron guage and it is quite confusing. It doesn't count down the vac like my supco micron guage does, instead it just comes up with a number like 436 and it stays there, never changes. I tried to turn it on and off, reset, etc but it never really reacts to changing vac pressure, I am going to return them tommorrow. The other parts of the setup seem ok but I'm not gonna invest any money in something that I'm not 100% satisified with. Just not sure if I can afford to spend 500 to 600 for the testo model.:mad::mad:

The vac guage does not read atmospheric pressure instead in reads kmicrons, if i remember correctly. You have to see the chart included in the manual to convert to microns. I may be incorrect but I don't believe any other digital guages read true microns. If others know of such a digital setup, then they can post what model and brand.

I have been reading up on the digital guages and the digimon for that matter. from what i can see thus far the main problem were having is the update time. digicool updates every second where as the digimon updates like every 3 minutes. my question is if your pumpin down a system, it takes 10 seconds to go from 30 to 0 psi. how do you prevent from pumping your system down into a vacuum when pumping down? then if we can figure that out how do we convert microns to mbar or kmicrons or whatever they call it. should we stick a calculator or conversion chart in the toolbag or do we just not buy them because not using charts and calculators is the main reason for getting them . to take the guess work out as they say. i'm guessing they are not all that good of a tool.

i have both the refco & mastercool digital.
in hindsite the digicool is the way to go & as soon as some of my accts. rec. come in will have a set of the digicools. the knobs on the refco were a real problem at first & then the readings were starting to drift too much.
the mastercools are nice when they work but in the last 10 months have had them replaced 4 times. they dont hold up very well in a service truck
& the heat on a rooftop seems to affect them too much.
save your money & get the digicools. from all the responses on this board
i dont think any of us would be disappointed with the digicool.

The yellow jacket solar is not a digital gauge, it uses a burdon tube like a regular analog gauge, it just converts the mechanical movement to a digital display.

Zac YJ solars are nothing more the digital readout Their not Digital technology
I'd would waste my money

I have been looking at purchasing a set of digitals. Was pretty much sold on the digi 1250 and was going to place an order within the next week but now I am kinda interested in the new Yellow Jacket. I know the old YJ was just a 1200 in YJ wrap. Has anyone had a chance to play with the new YJ or have any input? I know digi's support is unmatched but the YJ seems to have some cool features (except it eats batteries).

YJ has been doing A LOT of SHADY stuff lately and argue with costumer about warranty issues also telling you it over the counter and then I find out that it means you have to what till they Decide if they will warranty it or not. And the seem to be Claim a lot is not under warranty lately. I took a buddy of mine around six week wanting on a Micron gauge (4 months Old) and a lot of agreeing to get them to finally warranty it.
DigiCool I have Yet to hear that they didn't warranty it and within days at the longest you get it back.
YJ used to be great Know they're a product ed I won't buy hope fully the will clean house and go back to being a Good Company.

From what I have read there is no question that digi's customer service is 1st class. I am just trying to get an idea of how the new YJ stands up to the 1250.
I think webber had a chance to play with them

I would really love to hear from Doug but I am guessing there may be future (or current) litigation and he may not be able to comment. Would love to hear from someone else who has played with both the digi and the new YJ.

Digi-Cools are a proven product with great support.
I have been testing the new YJ's for a few weeks now and will say that I'm not complete with my testing but I'm very impressed with the unit.
I will have a full detailed report available in the near future.

I am looking forward to any reviews of the YJ digital.
As of right now, I am looking at the DC1200. From what I have read about them, I know I will not be disappointed.
If the YJs wind up being a better bang for the buck, I will opt for them, but it will take more than a sales sheet from YJ to convince me.

Do a search on the testing of the new yellow jacket. I would be very cautious about right now.

I'm still socking the money away for it. Not going to be buying it Monday or anything. Looking towards the first of the year or so.
I will wait for reviews from those here who I trust.
The short battery life is a HUGE turnoff with the YJs. May even be a deal breaker.

have you kept then on a large part of you day day after day like we often do.
Also did you do the repeat drop test from 6 ft and all 4 on corners and faces and back.
and did you dunk them is a bucket of water and /or spray them with water for 1 min???
Also how readable is the screen??

Yes, they are used in the field on service calls day after day, then they are also used in labs and extra testing medthods.
So I would actually say they have been used more then a regular set of digitals would have in the same period of time.

The screen is very easy to read, no glare what so ever.
Testing will be described in the review when released.

resistance to wear against refer oils would be a good test too. :-P 4 daily sprays on the manifold would suffice.
