View Full Version : Best crawlspace dehumidifier?

1)Looking for a ductable dehumidifier for approx. 2500 sq.ft. crawlspace(200 sq.ft. is concrete floor, 2300 is dirt covered completely with 4 mil poly and crawl is sealed up fairly well).
Currently I have a typical residential standalone non-ductable $300 unit bought at Lowes in the crawl space and it does a fully adequate job of humidity control in the crawl space. I want to replace it with a ductable through the wall unit- to get the unit into a storage room adjacent to the crawlspace where I can easily get to it. Must have a remote humidity controller.
I have looked at the Aprilaire 1700 ductable dehumidifier and the Sante Fe Advance(and other models) on the web. Looks like both would do the job but may be bigger and more expensive than I need. These look like they will cost $1100-$1300 installed.
Can anyone recommend a unit for this application?
Thanks for any help on this,

The Santa Fe Advance removes +6 pints per KW and provides <50%RH in a crawlspace. Residential units range from <2-4 pints per kW. The SF is built to commercial dehu specs like the commercial Hi-E Dry/Phoenix units. The extra dehumidifing capacity will help keep your home dry. The dehumidistat can be remoted and there is 10" duct kit. Regards TB

TB:Thanks very much for your reply regarding the Santa Fe Advance.
Do you know anything about the Aprilaire1700 ductable? It would fit my space constraints better than the Santa Fe.
Also, both the Santa Fe and Aprilaire will cost over $1000 installed- a considerable investment for us. Do you know of any ductable units that would likely do our job for less cost? Or, is this about the price range we will have to spend for a quality/reliable unit?
Thanks again,

Check out therastor.com for a smaller unit, Santa Fe Compact. It's a little smaller and less cost. The Santa Fe Advance with a duct kit is bigger and 50% more efficient than the Aprilaire or Compact. Regards TB

TB:Thanks for your reply. I looked at web info on the SF Compact. The web says unit is good up to 1800sq.ft.. My crawlspace is 2500sq.ft.(200 of this is concrete slab, rest is dirt covered well with 4mil poly stapled to ground, all foundation vents and openings to crawl are sealed well). The crawl is about 30'w by 80' long by 3'high- so blower must blow air through ducts to various places in crawl.
Do you think the Compact unit would be ok for my larger crawlspace?
Also, I want to put the unit in a storage room and duct it through the wall to crawlspace. The optional accessories list a duct kit for the Compact but there are no pictures- do you know how the ducts are connected to the unit? Stick-on? Screw-on?
I could not find the price of the Compact unit anywhere on web. Do I need to call a dealer for this?
Thanks for your help!

Call factory or a/c contractor for a quote. 800 533 7533
The ducts are 8" and similar to the other dehus. No problem on the remoting the dehu to the garage but you must remote the dehumidistat. Regarding capacity of the Compact SantaFe, it will work if the crawlspace is air tight and you do not mind occasional 60%RH.
I would be interested trying the unit on the space. If a bigger unit is needed, you could return for a larger if you pay the freight back and forth. Call the above number, ext 7803 or 8448. Regards TB
