Any advice on how to retrieve user names from an existing DX configuration? Thanks in advance.

Find the guy that programmed it.

If this is a stand alone controller, you won't be able to get the point names unless the original programmer left a .tag file with the controller. If the controller is on a system with a global controller ( Companion, N30 etc..) then you should be able to trace the points back to the DX.

If the DX is connected to a supervisory controller then you will be able to get most information from that database

Was interested in the .tag route of finding names. The system was originally installed 11 years ago. It has recently been integrated into larger network (18other buildings ). Original supervisory device was an N30-been replaced with an NAE. I have the original control prints but nothing else.

You may want to do a search on any PCs that are/had been talking to the network. Try a find for *.tag on the entire drive including sub folders. Look for discs hidden in control cabinets. Other than that, I've managed to print out all the points to a text file using the front end. Usually it lists which UNT or DX they are related to. Then you get to open up each field device and add the tags and be sure to save them then. A bit of a pain in the ass.
I now leave a print-out of all the points in each cabinet or stuck to a field controller.

That building was originally stand alone-recently integrated into our network. The N30 was replaced with an NAE during integration. We can now look @ the building and CEP. Other issues exist- i.e. no cooling afterhours or weekends although ahu's are on via unocc cooling setpoint (82*). I have re-created the DX user names from the original prints.
