Address the stagnant water problem first.
Level the drain pan, make sure the water drain properly and make sure the drain pipe do not let the water stay stagnant.
Putting a acid or chlorine based tablet on a stagnant condensate get rid of algae problem but introduce a corrosion problem.

No problem at the air handler. water drains OK. Problems at the condensate line. Its in the concrete slab so I doubt I'll be making a personal visit to see if I can pitch it properly.
I don't have a huge problem, but do have to clean it out about 1 time each year. I thought this Algae Guard product could help. Its EPA approved so I doubt its going to eat away at my PVC.

If that is the case i guess it will be okay to use the algae tablet.
Some of the anti algae tablet uses metal ions (like copper or alumina)to kill algae instead of acids or chlorine so i was told.
