Both are great brands. Choose a contractor who:
1) Does a load calculation on your home before giving a tonnage
2) Has a clean record with the BBB
3) Can show you what different efficiencies mean with regard to payback
4) Talks on and on about how important it is to have a sealed duct system

Good luck!

If you're in a cold climate, definitely consider getting a high efficiency furnace (G61V/Trane XV90i) and a lower end a/c.

If you're in a warm climate consider a dual fuel system or heatpump to reduce energy costs. Whether this is worth while or not depends on your climate and gas/electric rates. A heatpump with aux heat strips should cost less to purchase than a furnace with A/C.

Thanks for the replies

I am just outside Chicago. cold
The problem with the high efficiency furnace, at least how I understand it is the intake and exhaust.
The 3" pvc tubing would have to travel across my basement ceiling about 40' under all the beams, with a pitch towards the furnace. It just seems like it would end up hanging down very low.

I don't like 80% AFUE furnaces. They are a dinosaur considering today's energy costs especially for Chicago area/climate. I believe Chicago area has reasonable electric rates. Since you have installation issues for a high eff 92+ AFUE condensing furnace, pair the 80% with a high eff heat pump. A very practical compromise.

IMO
Good Luck!

;)Go with Lennox and of course great contractor. XP19 is Lennox most efficient HP. Comparable to XC21 ac unit. Also keep in mind Lennox furnace and ac is very quiet. One big thing is that the Trane Clean Effects requires alot of homeowner maintenance and it also produces ozone(lung irritant). The Lennox Pure Air only requires cartridge repl. once or maybe twice per year. It also the only eac to not produce ozone. Hope this helps

if single stg heat pumps then the following in no particular order.

Trane XV80 with XL15i HP and best matching coil

Carrier Infinity 80 with Performance 15 HP and best matching coil

Lennox G60V with XP14 HP and best matching coil

as far as indoor air quality and protection of blower motor/evap coil, a good 4-5" pleated media filter media cabinet merv 10 is more than adequate for most homes
