OK, I need even more advice. Thanks so much for the help this forum has given me so far.

I have decided on a Carrier Infinity system. That will give me humidity control, for which my condo currently runs at 50%... It will be a variable speed fan which means it can run at a low speed for a while which will help when trying to filter the air. I have allergies so I want decent filtering.

OK, I can get the Performance EZ Flex Cabinet Air Filter, which is standard, or I can up grad to the electronic version, or to the Infinity version. The Infinity seems like over kill and the price is killer too.

What are your thoughts on those keeping in mind the price differences?

Also, can I put a different filter system in? Or if I can't do that can I put a different filter media in? Will the filter change message still work with the Infinity control?

I already have two stand alone room air purifiers. I am hoping that with this new system I can get rid of those.

Thanks for any help, advice, and thoughts on this as I really want to do this right, but I am on a budget.

Keith

The carrier infinity air purifier is a good choice it really does a nice job. I have had some real good feed back from customers with allergies. No matter what filter you go with the infinity control will check the filter every day. You did order the control with the system hopefully. Other wise a good hepa system add on will be a good bet also.

The electronic and infinity will produce some ozone. Infinity is the only one to claim it kills anything. Media filters are available in various MERV ratings. The higher ratings usually have greater pressure drop your contractor should be able to match the filter to the system so performance isn't implacted negatively. Compare required maintenance and replacement media cost.

i have an INFINITY filter in my home and I just changed it.GROSS!! I cannot believe how dirt it was and I took out a Honeywell EAC. I did notice the dust level in the home was reduced by the "Dining ROOM table test"you could almost watch it day by day add up on the table, now it seems it takes a months what took a few days before.

Yes, I am ordering the Infinity control. After all that will be the heart of the humidity control. The point about producing is a good thing to remember. You know I may be for saving the whales, but I wouldn't want to live with one. Same for Ozone, I wouldn't want to live with it.

The Infinity air cleaner sounds good except for the Ozone. The cost is prohibitive though at quadruple digits. It just seems way overpriced also.

The air filter the installer wants to use he says is Carrier and is MERV 8 rated.

Speaking of increasing the pressure, I am not sure how that is calculated, but it will be a two ton system feeding a two story 1000 sf condo with three vents upstairs and 2.5 downstairs. One of the downstairs vents is in the bathroom and is a little bit smaller then the others.

Currently in the system that will be replaced I use the 3M ultra-alergen filter. I use two of the one inch thick filters at a time. And I replace every six months. These helped, but didn't help enough so I still use two room air cleaners.

Honeywell f100 filter maybe merv 10, not as wide as INFINTIY and can be upgraded to Honeywell eac down the road if you wish

If I get the standard Carrier filter box, can I put a better filter in it? By better I mean one that will pull more allergens from the air .

Did that double the thickness idea come from you or the HVAC serviceman? That would seem to be a bad idea as they are known airflow killers at single thickness.

The double the thickness idea was my own to try to get better air cleaning. I knew it would put a lot of stress on the fan...
