trying to decide which unit is best for my 1200 sq. ft. home, the first unit is a carrier performance series 2.5 ton 16 seer 25hpa530a003 and the air handler fv4bnf003 .The second unit is a carrier comfort series, this company says I need a week 3 ton unit, this unit is also 16 seer but the salesman didn't write down the model numbers, both units are very close in price, I don't have ARI certified performance stats on either unit, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Both are heat pumps and I am replacing a 3 ton straight cool RUUD

I would stay with performance series, it is way quieter and better built unit.

I have estimates on Amana, Westinghouse and Payne, Payne doesn't have a variable speed motor, and the Amana and Westinghouse weren't that much cheaper than the Carrier brands, is a 2.5 ton what I need, I'm in central Florida

A load caclulation is what tells you what capacity you need. We can oly guess from here.
And if your contractors haven't done a load calculation, they're just guessing also.

Who is cheaper isn't importnt, what your getting for the money is whats important.
You can have the most expensive brand installed wrong, it won't work as good as the cheapest brand installed correctly.

They should do a heat load calculation on your house. 2.5 tons on 1200 sq'
house might be to big and you won't get proper humidity removal. The house could be cold a clammy. Under sizing is better than over sizing.

Almost there, Had a load calculation done, the person doing it stated that I need a strong 2 ton unit or a weak 2.5 ton unit, (need about 26,000 btuh) my question, is the 2.5 ton carrier performance 25hpa530a003 with the air handler fv4bnf003 (29,200 btuh cooling, 29,400 btuh heating) 16 seer, eer 13.00 and hspf 8.5 too much? Or should the air handler down graded a little bit? 1200 sq.ft. 33 year old wood frame home in central florida.

What indoor and outdoor design temperatures were used for that calc.??

What type windows and insulation does the home have??

The equipment listed should be set to run at 350 cfms per ton,for steamy Florida to dehumidify better. At 350 per ton ,total capacity is 28,700,sensible 21,070,and latent of 7,630 btus.

The load should give you the total, sensible, and latent btus required, which vary from ARI ,depending on the indoor and outdoor temps., that it will operate at ,as well as the cfms selected.
