I'm trying to purchase Data Mate Base.

Siemens is telling our purchasing dept that Data Mate will not work with Insight version 3.6.0

Is this correct? Are they giving us a line of B.S.?
Just getting their people to get back to us is tough.

They did ask if we wanted Data Mate with USB or Parallel.

Does Siemens sell a USB cable to connect from laptop to device?

My IBM Thinkpad 60 doesn't have a serial port and I am planning on using a serial port adapter by Quatech.

Data Mate base doesn't use a key, but it doesn't do much either.
Your Siemens office should be able to help you out and determine
if your needs can be met with the Data mate base.

Data mate advanced is what uses the key-- with that HP -60 you'll want a USB key. The only conflict with Insight 3.6 and Data Mate is if they are on the same PC, it cannot be done.
If they are not Insight doesn't even know what Data mate is.
One bad thing about the advanced is its a yearly license and it does not include upgrades.

I know that that there were issues with USB to serial converters, but the
Radio Shack model works well. The Radio Shack Catalog #: 26-183 $27.97
you'll need to install the drivers for it off the CD. Keep the CD every once in awhile the drivers wouldn't work for the cable and reinstalling them worked.
I'm not the only one this has happened to.

Siemens can get you a serial to RJ? connector Siemens part #540-143.

I had this exact setup on an HP60 and it worked well. The HP 60 died and now I'm going to try it on an HP 61
