i have a yellow jacket vacuum gauge. the problem is that when i close the ball valve attach to the vacuum sensor the numbers go up instead of remaining still to show a deep vacuum. is this normal? i don't think so. first time i use a yellow jacket vacuum gauge .

What ball valve. Are you hooking the guage at the pump, or directly to your manifold.

the gauge is connected directly to your manifold. and it's the yj ball valve
(60067) I have the gauge connected to the vacuum sensor, the vacuum sensor connected to the yj ball valve, the yj ball valve connected to the blue hose, the blue hose connected ti the manifold, and the yellow hose is connected to the vacuum pump. in that order. what am i doing wrong?

Try shutting off your manifold valves instead of the ball valve. The ball valve may be leaking.

I tried that and no cigar. maybe is the gauge. perhaps, there is a capacitor inside the gauge that burnout. or it could be the sensor, don't know and it's killing me.

Hook it directly to the vac using only the ball valve and your newest hose.

Sometimes the ball valve will still have left some of the prevacuum condition trapped in part of the seal. When you rotate the ball valve that part gets exposed to the gauge and it shoots up.
I ended up using a standard refrigeration shut off valve and have had no problems like that in years.

i did away with the yjv and connected the sensor directly to the vacuum tee port. same results. i'm guessing that it's the gauge or the sensor. come on guys we are hvac techs. somebody out there must have the answer.

Can't you zero it out and if not how much vacumn is it showing. Is it in microns. I have three different types.

The only other problem I had, if it's the same sensor with the metal casing attached to the plastic top or bottom, is the joint between the two would leak if any pressure was on the sensor. I fixed it by wrapping electricains tape around and around that joint and so far no problems.

no the gauge can not be zero out. it starts at 1 then drop to100 microns or so. .

Send it to Yellow Jacket...............
If it's a bad batch, they'll fix it.
If it's just broken, they'll fix it and charge you something.
Either way, it's useless as is, so at least you'll have a functional gauge for less (hopefully nothing) than the cost of replacement.
One more thought............I've seen the sensors for sale at United, maybe that's all you need?
