Please Help!!!

I am replacing my old furnace with a newer one and I need recommendations on which brands work the best. I received three quotes for Goodman, Carrier and York. The Goodman and Carrier are 70K BTU (one stage) and the York is an 80K BTU (two stage). I have 900 sq ft, ranch home with finished basement and I also need to keep the basement level warm during the winter. Two of the representatives suggested adding a return in the basement and the other suggested I add a heat vent on the floor. Is this a good idea? I am also adding AC to the home so I’m getting everything done at one time. Any recommendations?

You did not mention much about each contractor. Did any of them do load calc on the house, for the correct size unit? If you did not have A/C before this, I would highly recomend the contractor who can or has done this step. Each brand has its ups and downs, but more important than brand, is the installation. My recomendation would be to chose the contractor and not the equipment. If your area requires a permit for replacment work, I would not think of this as just yet another added cost, its your security that the job was done right. If you are required to pull a permit, they are required to come and inspect, and it gives you a leg to stand on if you get a botched job by a fly by nighter. I know you were looking for opions on brands, I just want to remind you that the brand is only half of what your paying, and almost any brand will support there product. Take a good look at each contractor also.

As above a load calc should be done.
Any one of those brands are fine.
The York unit, being 2 stage will provide more comfort then the other 2.

So you are not comparing apple to apples when you compare the other 2 to it.

As good as any other.
Like most others. They have high end units, and low end units.

No one has done a load calc, I will ask for one.
Thanks
