This concerns the upper zone of a two-zone home. If the supply vents are in the ceiling (e.g. attic ducts), what are the positive or negative effects of having the return vent near the ceiling as opposed to near the floor?

Common sense tells me that the living space would have better circulation by putting the return down low when the supply is up high. At least one HVAC expert I've spoken to says this is a myth and it is fine to have the return up (and supply) high off the floor.
