So Im watching the tele and Im seeing the pope with all that security driving down the streets of DC and I ask myself, what does this guy actually do besides tell people to get off the grass?

So, please enlighten me as to what this man does for a living and why he deserves so much ass kissen.

Well he's obviously the main holy guy (on this earth anyway) for the Catholics. But I'm a protestant so I'm not really qualified to answer. Maybe one of our Catholic friends will chime in. :)

Think of him like the commisioner of baseball - dresses nice - sets big picture policies - symbolic figurehead - looks the other way on inside problems (steroids in BB - child abuse with clergy) :D

Three cheers for Bush though playing the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" at the reception. Rush played it on the air today. It is a reglious song and Christ is mentioned. No PC there.

Imagine that, Glenn listens to Rush. As for the pope, he's a figurehead for the clueless catholics.

So who is the figure head for the ones with a clue? (couldn't resist)

I see the Pope mobile has changed a bit. I always thought of that like the little dice popper you see on kids board games....:)

I know what he is, but what does he do?

Just what he's doing today. Takes a trip now and then, has a bunch of people come to see him, speaks gibberish, and leaves. And shares pictures with child molesting priests.

St. Peter's real name was Simon. Catholics believe, Jesus renamed him Peter, meaning rock. He was to lay the foundation of the Church after Christ's death. Remember, Peter journeys to Rome. He is the Vicker of Christ. His successors are popes, meaning "father".

The Apostle Simon Peter was a bit of a snob about being Jewish and would not have been the Simon that the Catholic Church claims became a church leader in Rome. More then likely the Simon in Rome that the Catholics are using as their catalyst for pioty was a charlottin who wanted in on the "action" of what he considered the Jesus movement. It's in the Book. Nothint hidden here.
