Very very nice,

Did you send a picture to Doug?

Could you show a picture of the wire at the head and how you feed it thought the clamp.

It's a better set up then mine with a hand clamp. I'll try to get a picture soon.

I ran it through the clamp just like the original one, at the end I drilled a small hole to pull it through the clamp and then drilled the surface area to offset it and glued it in.

Nope, I bought a brand new one.

I couldnt find one, I looked on ebay and got tired of not finding any for the right price. Most of them were almost the same price as a new one and who knew if the clamp was really any good.

So I went to the supply house and bought one. I used my old one to make the clamp, and replaced mine with the new one.

Not too shabby Weber.

Did'nt have a Fluke or Fieldpiece sitting around at the time.
But the velcro had to go.

Took a Irwin Quick-Grip 2" clamp hollowed out the left side with a Dremel.
Siliconed the probe in place and the wire in the hollow of the clamp to retain it from moving.

See from the photo that you have the 2nd generation probe wire.

The copper barrell end, I like this one much better then the original one,

don't hate web, but am in the process of doing the same thing :) one of my co-workers was throwing away his old clamp because the wire had broke right at the end where it connects to the meter :) i was originally going to use my clamp and put the YJ sensor opposite of the FP original and double check every reading :)

How long does it take to settle down and have a steady reading? The one I made takes abit to equalize the temp of the clamp.

The same or quicker then using the velcro strap.

clamping in itslef is faster than fooling around with 6 miles of velcro :D

I fix mine when stuff like that happens. :D

its broke right at the k-type connector. it would take more work than its worth to fix. so i am going to make what weber has made :D i started a couple weeks ago, but got side tracked.

The only fault I have with the Digi-Cool /YJ is the velcro temp probe. I don't think a product that cost this much should have to be modified in the field to work. I haven't used the velcro probe in over 6 months because it cannot get tight enough to be accurate.

So what are you using?

I agree, it should have to be modified, but it did work just fine with the velcro just was a pain in the @ss to me.

The probe came off the velcro the 1st month of use. But my Testo pipe clamp broke the 1st month also, and they sent me the velcro and I had to field modify the pipe clamp.

i agree with the whole velcro thing!! i had the same problems, and there was entirely too much velcro!! but i have recieved an e-mail that says there will be a clamp very soon for the y/j and digi set :) sometime around june/july is what this person said ;)

I use my cooper clamp thermometer it reacts quickly and is all I have to do is clamp it on the line. I would prefer to use the probe that came with the manifold seeing how that was one reason I bought it. I was told there is a new clamp style probe coming for it but that was last year and I still don't see it. I know this stuff takes time but .....

It should be out this summer.

I'm glad I read this thread cause after using a Fluke clamp you can never go back to velcro. I just can't bring myself to destroy my Fluke so it's the Irwin clamp for now until Ritchie comes out withone

Be careful about which clamp you get as the feet on most of them are not thick enough to drill or hollow out to fit the sensor or clamp onto a pipe. I found this out when I made one and went thru a couple of clamps before I found one that would work. I also heated a 5/8" pipe and clamped the clamp around it to melt to the pipe diameter. Worked better than trying to drill it out. Use whatever pipe size you think works for you.

that crap velcro, and the gauge set doesn't come with check valves or valves on the hoses, it was between the yj's and the testo's thinking i should have gotten the testos

No saying you should had bought the testos, but testos dont come with hoses, so you could be stuck in the same situation.

Testos have a velcro strap also, and the pipe clamp which broke on me the first week. My velcro digi-cool also broke off within the 1st month.

Used my YJ's today 3 ton Marvaire compressor change out. Have a restricted cap tube on this one. Got to order dist and cap tubes Monday. Hooked probe up for sub cooling and the damn black goop melted off the velcrap. Called YJ and left VM for Nick. 800 beans and they give ya this crap set up. Hope they have a good fix they can have them back. No checks, or ball valve shut offs, should have helper in the box to carry them for that price. Guess I'm gonna have to build a better insulated clamp will post a pic when done. Second call was a 3 ton Sun with a nest of squirrels in the double shafted blower. Blew the blower into about 100+ pieces. Will order blower complete Monday. Looks like an interesting weekend coming up.

Should of ordered the digi cools/ yj without the hoses and saved yourself some money.

Yellow jackect hoses are junk IMHO

NRP's are much better.

when i bought my digi cool, i knew exactly what i was getting...a digi cool guage.

why would you be dissapointed that they did not come with check valves or valves on the hoses. did you not pay attention the the contents of the sale? from what i've seen, testo does not come with your request either.

however the temp probe dose blow arse.

but i have had great sucess with digi cools that far outweigh a fubar temp probe design.

It just pis*es me of to spend 800 bucks on something and have it fall apart the first time you use it. I'm going to bi*ch up a storm on Monday to YJ. LMOM for Nick and sent them a couple of POed customer emails. The ball is in their court right now. I do like the set up but the temp sensor set up has go to go. Superheat and sub cooling right in front of me no charts, no other thermometer to set up. Can see the time savings all ready after one use. Played with the temp sensor to day and you cant get it very tight against the pipe. After weighing in the charge 62 oz r22 found out we had restriction with instant SH SC readings. We have got to stop the influx of Foreign crap if this country is to survive in the global economy. If not our landfills will be full of foreign crap.
