Wondering if there is such a thing. I have a forced hot air single zone furnace that heats both the main level and basement. I use a wood stove for a good portion of the winter to heat the main level. Obivously the main level is warm but the basement is cold. The single thermostat is on the main level. I have closed the vents on the main level 3/4's of the way so it would not be too hot when the furnace kicks on while the wood stove is running. I do not want to mount the thermostat downstairs but instead am wondering if:

a-can you have 2 different thermostats wired to the furnace on a single zone system?

b-assuming the answer to a is no, is there a product that has maybe one reciever and 2 different room thermostats?

Thank you in advance for your help. My calls to local HVAC companies have gone unanswered.

Well, you can have 2 stats on one furnace. If you don't have dampers, the other zone won't be comfy. The way I'd do this is use a cheap zone panel as the interface between the stats and the furnace. Your contractor may have other ideas. There are also wireless stats so you can take it to the room you want to be at a certain temp. Neither are DIY projects, talk to your dealer.

There are definately products capable of doing what you need, finding a contractor to handle them is your issue right now. Just for fun, why not post your general location here and see if someone here can help you. There is a LOT of talent roaming around here.

thank you. I do not have dampers. Would you possibly have a link to the wireless stats you are reffering to?

I recommend the Invensys 9720i with remote sensors, the stat will actually take a reading in every room where there is a sensor installed and average it out. They work very well, we have had good results with them, the best part is you can install the stat in any place you like.

Honeywell has thermostats that can have remote sensors, and will average the readings.

You may also want to run your fan, while using your wood stove.

A couple of things -- don't close off any vents! Could cause problems with temp rise in furnace/heat exchanger leading to BIG problems.

Your TStat will only operate only when calling for heat. Depending on where wood stove is how much heat it puts out and where TStat is might overheat in wood stove affected area only. Does wood stove effectively heat entire main level alone? Abundance of wood stove heat would not allow TStat to call.

Cheap solution -- run system fan "ON" while using wood stove. Some heat will migrate through system to basement.

Best solution -- a true zone system with dampers and another TStat control in basement with proper ducting modifications.

Now that's a great idea!

You can buy remote controlled thermostats. I think Totaline. We installed them on a place a few years ago. By day, the guy had an office, in the evening he had an apartment he leased out. He had 1 system to run the whole thing. He didn't want the tenant in his office at night and the tenant didn't want him in their apt. by day. It was a strange setup, but worked for him and his tenant. We installed 1 each on each side of the door. Whichever thermostat was set last had control of the system. Neither of them were in their office or apt. at the same time, so no conflict. Worked great with no problems and cheaper than a zoning system.
