Hi,
I joined this group to get some feedback on a problem that I'm having with WaterFurnace. Here's the story:
On Dec 29, 2007 our unit locked out on compressor and would not
reset. I located Erwood Air as the closest WF Service Agent and called them out. They diagnosed a thermal lockout of comp. and due to holidays, left unit in backup mode. On returning Jan 2, testing indicated no suction or pressure and failed comp. was diagnosed. Erwood ordered new comp. old one was Bristol new one Copeland scroll. After installation, extreme high press./temp. was observed on output side with extreme low press. on inlet side and it shut down. Lenghty analysis and discussion with distributor led to diagnosis of blockage in desuperhtr, It was bypassed and unit started and ran OK. 3 weeks later, unit goes into total lockout no heat available. Called Erwwod and failed board was diagnosed. Board replaced . Last week, comp. locks out
following some hours of steady operation. Reset restore it, but it happens
4 times over 3 days. Again Erwood comes out and cannot find any problem.
As of now I have these major concerns: 1. Erwood spent 29hrs to R&R comp.
with subsequent blockage problem & bypass of DHW, and has sent me an invoice for $1355 which includes warranty allowance for R&R of Comp. 2. We are still without DHW. 3. WaterFurnace will not cover any more of the invoiced amount.
The attending tech. concluded that the Bristol comp. probably liberated a reed valve, and debris from that blocked the desuperhtr. The distributor says "maybe" but that can't be proven without cutting open the old comp & desuperhtr.
This is my second WF unit in 18 years at the same home. The original also lost it's comp after 15yrs. The dealer persuaded me that a new unit would be the wisest option, since it would come with a full warranty. I paid $1000 to get the "standard" 10yr. warranty. With the original install, the new unit, the $1000 for warranty and now a $1355 invoice I'm into $28,000+ over 18yrs. I don't think that I'm ahead and will probably never break even.
I'm not happy.
