Zoning a ROOFTOP

He,s renting space for his office,s
Included in this space is a room 12x12 with Servers in it
He,s asking me to cool down the server room 24/7 but the rest of the offices can be (warmer or off)
My thought was to split the supply and add large returns in the server room
Install 2 zone dampers and put a tstate in the server room which would always be calling at alower temp
I,m open to suggestions or advice: I be stopping tomorrow for measurements etc to do a load calc on the space
Space is prob 25 x70 and I,m thinking it has a 5 ton gas pack on the roof

so when its -2 outside and your server room still needs cooling but the other rooms are calling for heat, what are you going to come up with?

split system for the computer room and dont touch the rtu

By the time ya get the money into zoning, dampers, panel, stats, labor, you aren't far from a low ambient mini.

Our office's zoning works fine but we do sometimes have a problem in weather when part needs cooling and my area of the warehouse needs heating. When my heat call satisfies and the dampers open to the rest of the building, some residual heat ends up there making their cooling needs greater so the A/C turns on. Then if I call again for heat I don't get it.

Go with a dedicated unit for the server room. There are so many options, I have used mini-mates, small package units, split systems, etc...

Not even an option. Tell them to get a dedicated system for the server room, or tell them to find a new contractor.

You've got too much on the line if this thing doesn't work the way it should (and it won't), and this guy ends up with a couple of fried computers. I guarantee he'll be looking for someone to hang out to dry, and won't remember that it was his idea in the first place.

Not having alot of Commercial time under my belt I,m wondering if a Stand alone unit like a Liebert would make sense?
Since he,s renting space its somnething he can take with him if he moves.
I have no Idea of cost

we do fair amount server rooms,definitely find out the heat load of the gear in the room and a dedicated unit. depending on the load we use exhuast fans,mini splits,WSHP,and liebert which is the cadilac.good luck

Sounds like an ideal setup for a ductless split for the server room. Then when he leaves down the road he could take it with him.

stand alone split- locate the AHU outside of the server room and duct supply in. Don't let a condensate leak into the servers. Any brand can be easily modified for low ambient with a condenser fan cycle switch and a low pressure bypass timer.
Trying to serve this room by zoning the house air will not work. The load in the server room will be constant, and with a zoned system, you will constantly have unsatisfied zones.IMO
