Has anyone used the zebrastat before? What are your thoughts on it?

I got one yesterday. Used it today in an attic. So far, I am pretty impressed. I was sceptical at first (its a bunch of jumper wires) but now that I used it, I kinda like it.

I have had one a while. I played with it a while when I first got it but I just havnt had a situation where I really needed it that bad yet.

A couple times when I thought about using it but being I knew I was going to be spending more time being Im not all that comfortable using things you only use once in a while. I just didnt bother.

Thats a bad habit of mine, that Im usally in a hurry to get the job done so Im not out doing calls all night. It just never seems that I get the type of calls that I need when Im trying to try out a new piece of eqipment. A call that you have all the time in the world to figure exactly how all the features on something works and you dont have a homeowner look over your shoulder.

Now as far as doing it on your own unit ..... thats fine but I feel better doing it a lot so your use to what your doing. Its just like anything you only do once or twice a year ...... I try keeping notes of it in a file in the truck so your not having to dig thru a manuel everytime to refresh your memory.

I use their Short Pro tool and a fistfull of jumper wires. It all fits in one pocket in my tool bag.
If the zebrastat was about half the physical size it is, and still had the long leads, I would most likely buy one.
As it is, it would take up more volume than I have to spare for it.

I did get to play with one on a system, the circuit test function is kinda neet, saves some time over checking each circuit manually.

I agree with you. I like to ensure the stat works too. But I have used this a good bit over 2 days. It does take longer to hook up all the wires but its nice that I can easily make the system do my bidding and pysically see that I have a good connection.

I used it yesterday for a low voltage short. I took 10 seconds to find that fan and SOV shorted out causing unit to run AC and Heat at same time. Took half hour out of the troubleshooting process.

It is a bit big and I wish it was smaller but I do like it. I will continue to use it and try to make it more of a habit. Its just nice when I can override all control circuits and and not keep walking in and out of the house to turn system to heat and cool.

split system, turn indoor fan to "on" position and jump out from OD unit :D package unit, well everything is right there :D on variable speed split, turn fan on amd make sure you are letting the AH know what your doing i.e. don't jump from hot wire to contactor, jump from hot to compressor lead from AH unit :)
