This new meter by FP looks neat. I wonder how much it is and if many techs will buy one? http://www.fieldpiece.com/hvacg_tester.html Just found it http://www.hvactester.com/fieldpiece-hg1-hvac-guide-t.html $300.00 - ouch.

It is interesting, especially since it is based on the "CheckMe" program, but IMO they shot for such a low price point that some important features were left out. Most notably to me is that the meter SCREAMS for some sort of keypad, even if it is just a cell phone style keypad.
Fieldpiece also really needs to come up with something better than a wet sock on the end of a bead thermocouple probe for taking WB readings. Hopefully something with one of the highly accurate electronic sensors that are available, mounted on the end of a probe that can be inserted into a duct.
With the typical instrument heads you would need to get all the readings, you would be looking at the $900 range, which is low for what it is trying to do.
That isn't counting the 2 heads needed for taking combustion readings, which are a total waste IMO.
I view it as being in the catagory of "interesting" instruments, along with the Cooper MFM, that the manufacturer is aiming for to low of a price point for what the instrument is trying to do, so the robustness and features of the unit, especially the interface and ergonomics, come up short.
I would LOVE to have some "CheckMe!" based software available as a Palm PDA application, or even a windows app.

thats not a meter. Meter - "an instrument or apparatus for measuring; esp., an apparatus for measuring and recording the quantity or rate of flow of gas, electricity, or water passing through it. " I have more time on my hands then you do. Until summer hits, this 70* weather is killing me.

I agree Mark, a nice key pad and I would probablly buy one. I dont know that I could keep up with all those plastic head attachments without losing or breaking one. I use the FP 76 now and like it alot.
