For residential gas heater work what would be the better choice, Is it the
YJ 78060 or YJ 78055? thanks

You might wind up needing both......
I do commercial work and still use the lower range one more.
But the higher range one works for both, just not as accuarate to read 3" of wc on a 35" scale as it is on a 10" scale.

I work with mostly 5 ton package units located above restaurants and ocasionaly i will work with a residential heater like i did the other day where i adjusted the gas pressure. So do you think the 78055 is good enough for starters? Can you also tell me why or in what kind of applications would you need the 78060? Thanks very much, im hitting the books for stinking heaters and i want to get this down, i made an ass of myself the other day with a gas heater.

Get a digital one. I have a Testo and can check gas pressure as well as TESP.

I apologize if this is a stupid question but what is TESP?

total external static pressure
I would recomend you get both a digital and an analog.
I perfer the yj one you posted, I also have a digital, and many dwyer air meters.

Checking pilot and manifold pressures is how I use mine most..... since the scale only goes to 10" its easier to read the small amounts.
When you need to read higher pressures the one that goes to 35" is what you need.
Just like selecting the proper range on your meter.
BUT ... going digital is probably better than anything else you could do.

Thats unit is OK, but the wc scale goes all the way to 60" and the accuracy level is taken, or rather based on the whole scale. 1.5% on the scale of 60" is a little high. The dwyer instrument measures 0-20" which is far more accurate. 475-1-FM

If you end up getting either of these kits, add alittle extra padding in the case. We have a few of them and for some reason, the case scuffs the crap out of bevel and clear plastic gauge cover. I like my tools to stay nice, alittle grease and dirt is fine, but a crappy case leading to a ton of scuffing is a real annoyance. Just an FYI.

Really? I have owned these for many years with nothing like that.

Maybe my guys are hitting the speed bumps alittle harder than others? It seems to be from vibration of the case against the gauge itself. I havent purchased one in years, I will admit they are not the most accurate, but they sure are bullet proof.

I thought the gauge was secured in the box.... its probably all the little parts and peices we tend to throw in with it that scuffs them up.

If it was me i would go with the digital one

Those diaphragm gauges are one of the least accurate ways to test gas pressures.
Use a good digital manometer.
My current favorite is the Testo 510. It is a dual range meter, so is more accurate for airflow measurements than the typical manometer that has a big enough scale for testing all types of gas supply lines.
