We are in the process of building a 10,000 square foot high end grocery store on Long Island, New York. And we are trying to size the HVAC system and do it right.
We have estimates as follows:
1/ton per 100 square feet with a build out cost of $400,000.00
1/ton per 200 square feet with a build out cost of $250,000.00
I am trying to get a sanity check on this. Do any of you guys know how you are suppose to do this??

Depending on the load of the building you would go with one or the other if you are not sure hire a company to figure it out for you.

do it right and estimates. those words used together never sound good.
get someone in there who will tell you exactly what it needs.

You most likely do not need a/c. Need humidity controll, maybe 10 Ton and Heat Reclaim for your rack. You will heat 300+ days ber year of you have 50HP of refer running.
From here it would be a wild ass guess. Invest in a pro to do the loads, consider the refrig loads, humidity etc. Too many variables for a direct answer

What do you mean freezeking that you don't need a/c????? What?
Get a PE to run the load and then get your subs to price a system based on that load. But 100 sqft/ton is what you need for a server room. Heck, 200 seems high but I don't know the building specs.

I agree get a PE...but- as it is a grocery store, normally (very dependent on amount of open cases ,among other factors) the ac load is not nearly as high as a normal environment, say an office building.
The biggest requirement may be dehumid rather than comfort cooling, depending on design.
Whatever you end up doing, I would definitely use condenser heat reclaim set up for heat and dehumid , as well as reverse cycle or cool gas defrost on the low temp equip, if it's economically feasible on a store this size of 10,000 sq ft, which is very small.

I say get a mechanical engineer or some one qualified to do a load calculation.
I believe somewere between the two numbers will be right
there's people bakeries delis meats lighting - yes there is or maybe open freezers deli cabs meat cabs etc
but its less expensive to use a/c to keep the store cooler than the refer equipment.
its you call - I recomend getting an experienced engineer to do the load calcs and design
