1st class:
Receive all company holidays and benefits.
Short term and long term disability insurance, medical, dental, life insurance, with the option of purchasing more at very low rates. 401 k matching plan (You own and control all that is in it), vacation, and floating hoildays.

THIS sounds like a STANDARD package for all TRANE employees.

2nd class:
Only U.A. local benifits, with some hoildays and what ever vacation you can negotiate on your own.

Union tech's at our shop get the "2nd Class"(aka Union) pay/benefits. I believe they get scale+/hr with 6 holidays and 2 weeks vacation, which is company paid that is not in the union contract. All benefits(insurance, retirement, etc.) are through the union per union contract. I work for Trane by the way. This depends on location, every city is different.

When I left York, er JCI, I was told by the vice president of service for JCI that any vacation time over 2 weeks had to be negotiated by each individual tech. Bummer!! OH, JCI never counter-offered because they know that they can't compete with the benefits that the market here can bear. Sucks for them!!

hey 007 were you out of the atl. office Jci is in pursiut of me as well as carrier and some smaller companys. I'am a chiller tech and they made a real good offer including matching 401K up to 6 percent. I requested my vacation time and they had to think about it. Two weeks was not a problem the third is.

I work for JCI in ATL and they do not give any matching for the 401K plan for the union members, good luck on the 3rd week of vacation. What ever you do get in writing.

We're all 2nd class guys here at JCI, all except the ones who are 1st class that is.... and they don't talk to us unless they need somthing unpleasent done. What do you expect? I've watched five good guys leave in the last year, but they were all 2nd class guys, so it won't make much impact on the management. They're all too busy worrying about how they're gonna meet the company's profit targets to give a crap about what's going on down in the trenches. Oh well, start up season is coming boys. There's always work for those who want it, and can get the job done. Don't blame the 1st class guys for getting a better deal, you'd take it if you could get it.

Yeah, that 3rd week is a killer, oh, this is only the 11th month with Trane and I've got the 3rd week. And next year I get the fourth, up to 5 weeks in 5 years. No, I was out of the Chattonooga office, but interviewed back in '00 with York in the atl. Traffic was killer and had to pass. JCI will not give a third week unless you are a foreman or have the "weight" of a seasoned chiller tech. It's unfortunate to see what a huge company is doing to what was the premier refrigeration company on the globe. Sad to see the York name disappearing before my eyes. Best of luck negotiating, but for the benefits, Trane can not be matched.

You better keep those happy thoughts. IR gives 3 weeks after 10 years. JMHO

Hey there absrbtk, IR's president told us in the meeting when the buyout took place was that they would not touch anything in the first year and then probably would not do much after that because of the very successful '07 year Trane had. "If it aint broke, don't fix it" seems to be the vibe everyone is getting. Worse come to worse, there's always the written thingy I have when I hired on. CYO-always!!

Thanks for the heads up absrbrtek, guess I need to dig a little deeper into IR's past and their business practices. Anyway, I can honestly say all the surprises I have had here have been good ones. JCI either would not answer a question or tell you what they think you wanted to hear. They shoot straight here and will tell you the truth, sometimes it's not the answer I want but still it's the truth. Hopefully IR will come close to that and if they do, it still will be better than what I left last March.
