I have a customer who wants me to size exhaust fans for a brine shrimp harvesting plant. I initially told him to call grainger and they would help them come up with sizes but they don't seem to be much help. Does anyone know someone to call for this kind of information, or a rule of thumb to get us close?

Thanks in advance

If you want design the system ASHRAE's HVAC Applications Handbook has design data for designing the capture hoods and determining airflow rates for a number of specific applications.

You can also check out The ACGIH Industrial Ventilation Book (give it a Google).

If you don't have the time or want the liability of the system not working, partner up w/ a HVAC Engineer to design the system & you do the install.

That's a pretty broad question and I wouldn't expect Grainger to do the engineering for you. Like flyrfan said, you need to get the applications hand book as a start, plug in your perameters and the desired outcome. I'm not sure there are any "rules of thumb" for a brine shrimp plant. You could do a "down and dirty" and measure the cubic feet of area to be exhausted, find a fan that will handle the cfm you need, and punch a hole somewhere near by for make-up air. That's as close to "rule of thumb" as I can get. I think you need an engineer, unless you have a lot of time on your hands.

Good Luck
