I was curious if anyone has ever tried to hit a modem through the internet through some provider that will dial out for you? Would be a great asset if i could jump on the customers lan or my sprint card and call up a job that only has a phone line and modem.

I think you have the same problem if you go to a Voip service, you cant call modems anymore? Dont know this i dont have a phone line at my house.

So would look like PC w/internet ---> to phone access provider ---> provider converts to analog ---> provider dials modem # ---> Connect 9600(or whatever speed end device supports)

The sprint card can also act as a modem - speed is a little slow at 14.4

On older sites , I VNC/Remote desktop/PC anywhere into my desktop at the office with Modem. There are a lot of remote control possibilities

Do that with my Verizon card anywhere

Hey guys I am from the southern california area and I'm trying to find out a way to call up stores that have analog modems from where ever i may be. I looked into the verizon broadband access plan which said somewhere in the literature that with the broadband access service you could use your cell phone as a modem but ran into the issue where the cell phone is a digital line and the landline that the modem has is analog.(never actually tried it) i would appreciate it if you can share the ways you've accomplished remote comunications to a analog modem without having a landline. what wireless card, service do i need.

thanks

Hi Guys/Girls,

Have been using a wireless diaup station which basically acts as a wireless phone point to access the older jobs that utilise a modem connection. It is a Ericsson G32 module which just requires a sim/data card inserted and away it goes.

Mind you this is in Australia and it works on our 3G or NextG networks. I have been using one to gain access to a Carrier CCN network without many problems through a Telink dialup module. It depends on the reception but I have been able to even download BEST++ programs depending on the connection speed.

As far as I know its available internationally!!!!!! :-

Ausccn, i looked around at the site and that seems like a product i am looking for. Can you clarify a few things tho, did you put this G32 module at the site, and you call into it from your laptop?

Scrooloose,

It was installed at the site with the Telink directly plugged into it's RJ phone connector. When dialling it you have to use a direct line (like a fax line or home phone line) as when I tried using a line that goes out through the phone system at work it would not connect.

One of the guys from work has been able to dial it with his laptop using his mobile phone as a modem, but my old Motorola V6 wont connect to it when I try.

Here's what I did..... I have a Dell Latitude D820 with built in Verizon wireless (~$70/month). I also have an old laptop in my office on our office network plugged into a phone line. I connect from my truck via Microsoft Remote Desktop to that machine who in turn dials out......... best tool that I own! Use it once a month and it pays for itself, use it every day like I do, it pays for itself over and over!

I looked into this and cant seem to find any info on that. I have a Sprint Aircard the literature never states being able to use it as a dialout modem.

Could you elaborate a little or point me in the right direction of some info to test this?

I have a Treo 650 "Smartphone" and I bought the 'USB-Modem' software I don't recall from who exactly but if you search google for "Treo USBModem" you'll get the link.

Basically it allows you to use your phone as a modem. True dialup, I have dialed other modems with it before but mostly just use it for internet.

Hope this helps.

My Verizon aircard says that it can be a modem too, but I think that it's only 1200 baud so I didn't bother. The slow speed is why I link thru remote desktop.

Verizon, and I assume Sprint, can provide you with a card that slides into your express card slot on your laptop. You run a setup CD and your pretty much good to go. Dell sells a laptop with this built in for Verizon or Sprint, mine is a Lattitude D820.

scrooloose - When you install these cards (verizon and sprint), windows recognizes them as a fax modem also. To use them as a modem, do not connect to there broadband networks. Just select them like any other modem for the program you are dialing out with. You are right in that there is very little info about this feature. Keep in mind that I had the verizon card 2 years ago and have had the sprint card for a year - newer cards may be different.
