I have a job going with 2 carrier rtu's (approx 50 tons each) and they are being controlled via an allerton system with each unit having a bacnet interface, the control guy finds out that the bacnet card is very limited so now the customer ends up with a less than perfect system, after wasting so many hours with the control guy on issues, i've talked my bosses into using lennox equipment strictly due to the fact they dont lock up all the features of there units trying to push there own proprietary control line, and they make units up to the 50 ton range. Sorry for the rant.

When the controls guy says that the interface is limited, what limitations is he talking about?. The BACnet interface allows for upto 60 points to be monitored &/or controlled by a BACnet system. I have done 4 or 5 interfaces with Alerton with no problems. 60 points should allow for a lot of information to be passed through the interface, it is only a rtu. 90% of points that are available in the rtu are able to be piped through the interface so I wouldnt say that any features are locked up, maybe the interface hasn't been setup to allow for the appropriate points required!!
