The guys who designed the remodel for the house I just bought should be shot. They added on a second story, but neglected to bring any ventilation upstairs with them and it is now imposiible to do so (inside the house anyway). I have two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. I estimate well less than 400 sq. ft. I could put a 1.5 ton unit up in the attic above for about XXXX (quoted by two companies so far), but I am looking for a different method. The rooms need everyday heat in the winter, but only occasional air conditioning in the summer. We live in a warm, mild climate near San Francisco. Is there a smaller unit available that we can put in the attic to force air into these three small spaces? I don't even car about the bathroom as much which would reduce the square footage to about 300 feet. I appreciate any feedback. :)

Unfortunately there is not much you can do. You can put in a ductless mini-split system but if the bedroom doors are closed, they won't get much air. They make them in a heat pump wich is nice, but they can be expensive. I think this is about the only route you can go without destroying drywall to get heat runs up there.
