What is the worst compressor changeout you ever had or what is the worst location you ever had to lift a compressor too. I was just thinking that a home would be it for me, having to have to lift a compressor by yourself up to a roof top, two story home, and with a decline.

In a Carrier 30HR160 chiller, you have to take a 6E299 out between the frame members, so it has to be man handled all the way, it's a real great design

Not difficult to get to but I had to change out a Copeland water-cooled unit for a laboratory freezer. It's located about 5 feet from a Cleaverbrooks high pressure boiler. Had to due it in August on a 95 deg. day with high humidity. 110 deg. in the plant. Had a big a$$ fan blowing hot air on me and a screaming reheat pump about 2ft. away. Nice.:)

Ain't that fun? Remember not to let any sweat drip in the ref lines!

Carrier W. S. heat pump, the compressor was inside the serpetine coils. It was at a ladies clothing store above the ceiling, access thru a hatch. They didn't want to cut the ceiling due to the "Artwork" on the ceiling, that looked like it was done by a couple hoods with spray cans. Needless to say the new serpetine coil was reinstalled outside the unit.

lol, that sucks!!!
That is why I always seal the lines before I put one on my truck.

This doesnt hold water compared to some of you, but me and another guy pulled a trane climatuff for a 5 ton 25 feet up with a rope in about 95* weather.

Any compressor that is located other than at ground level pretty much sucks for a location.

Worst one I had was a water source heat pump over t-bar in a plastic surgeon's office. Sure, the scenery below the t-bar wasn't all that bad at times, but the compressor change-out was a biatch. Ever get a chunk of acoustic tile material in your eye? It feels like someone lodged a bolder in there, and it burns as well. Not fun.

So far the worst has been 8 compressors on CARRIER 50AH condensing units. BY MYSELF! I had to work them out, lift them onto a pallet and lift the new ones in, working them over the mount studs using a prybar and PVC pipe rollers. After the first one, the worst one, I turned it into an art form and managed to do it all in about 8 hours each, including a triple evac. The first one took me 14 hours.

For residential systems, any compressor that is inside of a full or nearly full perimeter coil, especially when that coil is 5 feet high and the compressor has Roto-Locks on them.

In my wife's high priced new refrigerator Thanksgiving day morning before the relatives arrived with a real bad hangover, laying on the floor head pounding like a jack hammer, getting rushed all the way

Those 5 ton residental Carrier heatpumps, the round ones with aluminum coils. You get to bust your back and then hope you don't blow a hole in the aluminum.
I finally figured out you could remove the coils from around the compressor easier than removing the compressor first.

As far as brute strength:

15 hp Copeland on a Hussmann rack.

Compressor sat 3' off the floor...........no lifting equipement - no help.

As far as PITA change-out:

5 HP Scroll on a Hussmann Protocol tucked in the false ceiling above the produce walk-in entry door.

Could barely reach the unit with a 10' ladder and then produce employees were either asking me to move every 2 minutes, or running into my ladder with a pallet jack.

Anoter "no fun" day.
