I am sure the best service guys go through this.

I have been on a problem with a good sized rack refrigeration system, where multiple computer control issues and mechanical issues have been plaquing me for several days. Been at battle now 3 days. Making progress but kicking my a$$. This old girl is fighting me every inch of the way. get one thing done and another issue appears.

It was fugged up. I was up half the night thinking about it. Can't shake it from my head. And just knowing how I deal with things like this, I won't shake it until I got it dialed down.

I usually have about 2 or 3 problems a year where I end up staying up at night with little sleep trying to think about it, to help get it fixed more quickly.

Anyone relate?

it's simply 'cause ..You care about yer job ....

I spent 3 or 4 sleepless nights onna new boiler start-up, where the combustion is set w/ VFD's .. 4mm/ btu/hr down to 400mbh

couldn't get dialed in, constant flame fail ..

factory tech support no help ..

as they said ... "we are learning along with you guys in the field " !!!!!!!!!

Fantastic... ..... NOT .. !!!

The only thing that can keep me up at night worrying is a sick kid.
Sometimes I come home after a tough day at work and go through the problem in my head, and often come up with a solution after taking a break from it.
Sometimes you need to walk away and rethink it later, with a fresh start.
But I don't stay up all night worrying about it.

Hell, just the thought of doing frigy work at a supermarket would keep me up and probably stop me up too.

Too much stress for me and not enough patience.

I'm sure that a lot of us have lost some sleep thinking about our work. I know I have, but like slim said it's because you care about what you do, and you care about your customer. You know the old saying "you can't sleep on a full mind or an empty stomach". What I do is grab a pen and paper write down what I'm thinking or I've got some some great resources' my father and some other tech's in the business that I'll call if it's not to late, or I'll come here there is a lot of good folks here that will try to help, of course you know that, and I'll grab a snack while I'm up just in case that's the real problem:D

Hope you get the problem resolved

What usually happens is that I'll go to sleep with no problem, but then wake up later at night with my mind racing over whatever I'm trying to think through. Going back to sleep is next to impossible until either a solution is devised or a momentary impasse (telling myself there's nothing I can do until morning) is agreed upon so I can return to sleep. Problem with coming up with a solution at that hour is that you then want to go execute it, but you can't, so you sit there thinking about it all over again. :D

The main thing I've learned over the years is that excess worry gets you nowhere. You can only do your best...after that it is out of your hands. The main thing is to do all that you can that is within your abilities so there's little doubt from anyone that you gave it your best shot.

Back in the day I used to love piping up supermarkets. 2 or 3 miles of pipe and no leaks. You would be on the job for a few months so you got to know all of the other tradesmen. We would all be working towards the grand opening.

But to service a supermarket, no thanks. You can stick that work in your ear.

I usually meditate for about 30 minutes before bed (else what you said happens to me as well). It takes practice to achieve a state that truly soothes the mind, but it works.

You can start here, if interested.

I don't have those types of problems, my problems are wondering how I can close an existing sale or what I could have done differently on a quote I lost. Slim was right, we stay up cause we care. If these things stop bothering us than we probably don't care about them anymore.

Been that way for years. But I found out there is a difference between stressful forceful thinking - if that makes any sense - and creative trouble-shooting. I gather all the facts I can, look over everything, read the manufactures sequence of operation, if any then pretty well forget about it.

Typically, in 3 days I'll have the answer. Or a process to find the answer. But I still will lose sleep and that is irritating.

Had to rebuild this hard to get to Carrier split system at a hard to service mall. Woke up around 3AM with a little voice telling me to carry a 13/16 in socket on the roof with me. The shopping center was and still is a pain to work at. Can take 30 minutes or more to get on the roof due to security.

Next morning I take my tools and that socket and guess what size the nuts were on the condenser shrouds? Yep, 13/16".

It can be really hard to walk away sometimes but once I get home I have trained my brain to come up with the solution while I am sleeping, once I wake up I usually have the answer.

I'm one of those guys who can fall asleep without a problem - when I'm tired it's sleepin' time.

But, much like someone else stated earlier...............a few hours later I'm up like a shot and then can't get back to sleep until I either figure it out or convince myself to let it go.

Usually hanging out here for an hour or so at 0200 will do the trick for me and get my mind off "stuff".;)
