Hi all,
I have just had my first child, a boy born Deceber 27, 2007. My question is did any one else with children choose not to get them vaccinated?
I have been reading about vaccines over the past few years even before the thought of children was a reality and I do not like a lot of the stuff I have been reading.
I know with some of the shots they have done away with mercury or thimerosal as some people have thought that might be linked to autisim in children but it was never proven and they took it out any ways as a precaution they say. It seems that a lot of children after getting the shots can have some bad reactions and most of them seem to get high fevers but seems like the doc likes to blame it on other things instead of the shots.
My plan is to not get any vaccines now and when my child grows up and chooses to live in a dorm or something it will be their choice and I think easier on their body to get the shots at 18 instead of starting at 2 months when their bodies are still growing. I am leaning this way because of looking up about measles, mumps and all the other diseases they are just not very likely to catch them.
From researching, I have found that a lot of times the vaccines might not take any ways so they do no good.
In Pennsylvania and a lot of other states you can get an exemption form for schools and such so that is not a problem like a lot of doctors will tell you. If you are thinking this way too check your laws in your state.
Any one choose not to vaccinate their child? Had any problems? Chose to get the single shots over a course of time rather then all at once? Chose to vaccinate after they removed the mercury/Thimerosal?
Thanks all

This is a difficult question for some parents, we have seen the effects of vaccines going wrong and it is devastating as my wife worked and held support groups for mothers needing extra help and support raising kids.
We did not get our kids vaccinated, they are 6 and 10 now and are healthy, I have another daughter how is 18 and she had here shots and she did have Asthma. So do some research and only you and your wife can make that choice.

My wife has been working with children with Autism for over a decade and has two Master's degrees in the field. When we decided to have children...the issue of vaccinations was a tough one for us. Many of her clients blamed their children's Autism on the vaccinations and mercury issue.
We pretty much reviewed everything that had been published on the subject and came to the conclusion that the shots were important, but that we were not going to follow the typical vaccination schedule. We only did one vaccination at time and waited till each child was six month old before we started. We did not get the Hep B shot and the MMR till after each child was over two years old. We spaced the Prevnar/HIB and Polio (I believe this is correct) shots at three month-five month intervals.
We followed a recommended schedule of shots published by a leading researcher in the field...I will see if I can find it and post it.
My children were not going into daycare...so I was less worried about them picking up something. I still think that so many shots at any early age is hard on a child's system...and could result in problems.
I wish you the best in your decisions.

Just like aden1 stated.Go slow with the shots. One of the
ingredients in shots is Mercury. That is a heavy metal.

In my state they banned it in 2004.That was too late for my son.He is special
needs. That's nice for "We don't actually know what's wrong with him."
Last month the Dr at children's hospital said he has autistic spectrum's
as well as being 2 years behind in growth.Do the research on this subject but
remember the shots are very important.
I think I would worry more about getting them vacinated against DUMB. From what I see its running rampant in the grade schools and High schools :D

There is mercury in lots of things. Things we use, eat, breathe.
?? How much. Most problems with toxic substances is due to repeated exposure and level.
This is a tough planet. Lots of stuff can hurt you. Before I would jump on the mercury band wagon I would want to know how much danger is my kid in if he goes cold turkey.
And a lot of people play Blame Game even if there is no proof.

It is through vaccines that we have been able to defeat diseases such as polio and whooping cough. I was very apprhensive about having my son vaccinated. I did the research and sat down with the pediatrition and finally did get it done. He is 8 now and O.K. Good luck with what you decide.:)

spend some time on research
some shots are important - even for dieseases thought to be erradicated in North America
there are plently of immigrants legal/illegal from other countries bringing them into Canada/USA right now

Polio is one of those diseases that really had a "face" put on it...everybody can remember the how debilitated Roosevelt looked in the wheel chair. Areas with "polio outbreaks" where seemingly everybody had the virus.
In reality, the virus affected very few people. Even before the vaccine, contracting the virus for about 99% of people was no more dangerous than the common cold. Of the remaining 1%, the disease was serious enough to constitute bed rest and IV fluids (not usually in a hospital). Of the 1% seriously affected, only about 5% got Polio bad enough to get the paralytic affects that lasted the rest of life. Of the 1% with a serious infection, only about 1% died from the disease. Adults with the disease were slightly more likely to die (about 5 times) than children.
These numbers are world-wide stats...living in the Western Hemisphere greatly decreases your chances of contracting Polio and increases the survivability of it.
Polio was well on it's way to being wiped out years before the first Salk Vaccine was introduced in 1955...commonplace measures like hand washing, cleaning of vegetables and fruits before eating, sanitation measures by local health departments made huge reductions in transmission of the disease. The virus is spread from feces of an infected person to the digestive tract of another.
That being said, both of my children have had the polio vaccine. On the other hand, I didn't let them get the Chix Pox vaccine. They both got the pox at 6yr and 5yr old. Sick for a week then never have to worry about it again. The pox vaccine has some serious and deadly side effects. More children die from the vaccine itself than from the actual disease. Lifetime immunity is not likely with the vaccine.
Schools will give you a hard time about not getting the shots. Stick to your guns and don't let them frighten you into backing down. Know your rights and be informed.

Taby, I understand your concern as a new parent. You want to protect your child against harm like we all do. But I think it is our responsibility to protect all of society by getting our kids vaccinated. The kids are probably more at risk by not getting protected than they are by the extremely slim chance that there will be catastrophic results by vaccinating. As Penguin said, with all the dreaded diseases that are being brought into our country from abroad, the odds are that all these unvaccinated kids will eventually suffer the consequences.

Even though I am not a parent I understand your concern and feel children's innoculations are very important since the parent's contributions are mostly important during the first 4 to 6 months of life. I remember hearing some stuff about the mercury and or thimerosal in earlier vacinations from years back and a possible link to autism even though it may or may not be proven, was agressively addressed on the radio by Don Imus just prior to his annual radiothon which was held every year for familys fell victim to SIDS. You may be able to find some more info on the net under his name or his wife's name. He has a ranch in New Mexico for children with cancer and he is very involved with the SIDS Foundation.

Thanks so far for all your replies. So far the way it stand with my research is I am not going to vaccinate my children. I have found that most diseases/viruses can be avoided with proper nutrition and supplements. Even though vaccines have taken out the mercury/thimerosal there are still other metals in them such as aluminum and other heavy metals that can cause problems.
I still plan on talking to a pediatrician and getting the paper inserts from the vaccines to read over and see if that by chance changes my mind. I also need to look into getting shots done one at a time over a longer period of time but there isnt so much research on that as there is the regular shots.
Thanks again all, any more stories let me know what ya got.

I believe in my state, you're not gonna get your kid into public school, without all their shots.
