I have a Weil McLain WTGO3 that is about 8 years old with a Weil QB180 burner. It has been problem free except for the controller needing to be replaced 2 years ago.

Yesterday AM I woke up to it blowing out black smoke through the power vent. I replaced the nozzle, no change. I checked what was coming out of the fuel pump and it was black, so I changed the filter...now it is nice and pink. I thought the nozzle might have gotten immediately plugged up, so I took it apart and cleaned it well with WD40. No Change. I've cleaned up everything I can think of. It is getting oil, it is igniting, but smoking a ton and won't heat the water to even 140 (runs at 180). Also, when it first ignites, there is a couple of puffs of smoke that comes back throught where the cam is for the burner just when it lights.

My boiler maint guy hasn't called back after 5 calls in the last 2 days. He is older and I think ill. Normally I can fix this and have him come out when he is able to adjust everything, but this has me stumped and I have no heat and nobody else out here in the middle of nowhere (woodstove thank goodness).

Any thoughts?

1 you don't clean nozzles you replace them.
2 not a diy site so we can't help you blow your house up, or at the very least soot it up.
3 if he's ill call up another guy, sounds like your boiler needs some serious TLC

Unless you have a combustion analyzer and smoke tester and know how to use them, you can't fix your problem. Sorry to say, you'll have to rely on your wood stove until you can get someone out there. Like camjerus said, don't blow yourself up!

When the boiler belches smoke it is also plugging up the flue passages in the sectional boiler..you need pro help.
