OK, I am curious. I am am a frequent contributor to many forums in my fields of sound/audio and aviation. I guess I am not used to asking for help and being told that no help can be offered.
So, what is the purpose of having a forum? If you cannot offer any help or advice. What's the purpose? I deal in very expensive high end audio and airplanes which a way more expensive than HVAC and I can get just about anything answered.
We have had 2 qualified Trane techs look at this with no help after $150 service calls. The warranty ended yesterday 11/30 although the 2 calls were labor, no parts used.
I guess I won't use THIS forum anymore if it offers no real help....Seems like a waste of good bandwidth...
If anyone wants to contact me directly on this, please free to do so at:

If we start giving out DIY advise some nimrod may end up killing himself or family.
I don't think audio equipment gives off poisonous gas or could possibly blow up a home?
Call a pro, have your equipment inspected, and have the peace of mind that you did the right thing and your family is now warm and safe.

When is the last time you read about someone being killed from carbon monoxide poisoning as a result of tinkering with their home audio system?
Airplanes...........ahh there's a good one. You would give a person with no knowledge of aircraft operation and/or repair background detailed step by step instructions on how to repair an aircraft over the Internet? If you would - you kinda scare me..........:o

Sure this site offers real help. Want to know how to properly charge an outdoor refrigeration condensing unit with a headmaster in low ambient conditions?.......How about checking receiver levels?.........just take a peek at the refrigeration forum.........it's all in there;)
Oh, I bet you mean this site isn't any help to you and your specific problem as it relates to your specific piece of equipment in your specific domicile. Well, if two qualified Trane techs can't figure it out while there standing right in front of the unit, what makes you think a faceless individual on the Internet who has never seen your set-up is going to nail it dead on anyway?

Man what an attitude this place has....
Yes there are plenty of aviation forums that give out detailed advice on every aspect of aircraft. I have solved many issues on my plane by finding help from people unlike with this place....
And it is NOT home audio equipment. It is about $500, 000 worth of pro audio studio gear. That is just me. Many places around me have millions of dollars of gear. Unlike the few thousand for a home HVAC unit. I have microphones that cost 3 times as much. And I don't hear of too many folks getting killed by condenser coils or limit switches.
I guess I just operate in a different world. Thank goodness.
I will find someone who is will to offer some help. You guys just stick to your little party....Maybe this place is just for you to
help each other....
Oh yeah, and what about vehicle forums. You can go to any type truck or car and find all the help you want. They kill people too....
I was trying to find some real help from what I thought were people who knew what they were doing....I guess I was wrong...

1st, a high limit will kill someone if it's tripping all the time. Well, the limit itself won't, but the results will.
Yes, since this site is not a DIY site, it does mostly help fellow pro's with learning and fixing stuff. We do give some advise out... how to choose a contractor, what quality work looks like, change your damn filter... that kinda stuff.
But when it involves something that could hurt someone, the liability is too great.
Sure you can do all sorts of stuff on other forums, in fact, there's probably other HVAC forums that help home owners out... more power to them. But for what I'm around to do (help other pro's and get help from them) this place suits me just fine.
Good l luck in your quest.
BTW, we have tools that probably cost more than your microphones too... it's a relative thing really.

You do?....name one...
I have tape machines that cost over $50K new. And an old one that was $180K new...There are vintage mics that sell for over $25K....I don't have any of those. My most valuable is around 10K. Maybe you have some sheetmetal benders or something, but nothing in a canvas bag....Sorry, I don't mean to be-little your trade....I am just upset that it seems like I ran into a snooty bunch of good old boys that are trying to protect the party...
And what the heck liability is there when you're hiding behind a screen and keyboard?
Sorry new guy.
This happens to several that come here. This site was formed to help those in the business and a few Home Owners fall in here asking DIY info that is against the site rules for us to give out. That's all it boils down to really. Site rules haven't changed since 2000.
HO and DIY questions can be asked but we aren't allowed to answer them due to any liability that may fall on the site. Answering these types of questions get us kicked off the site by the owners so the guys tip-toe around them. People also take a "non direct answer" as being rude but we can't help that.
But... as long as it is an answer to "How can I fix this or What can I do when that happens" the normal answer you are going to get is, call your local professional.
Yes, I read where you did call and weren't satisfied. I apologize for that but like others in your industries there also may be people without clear understanding of this business and with poor education, thus the reason for this site. You can find the cream of the crop on this site. Maybe one of them are in your town?
Why not place your email address in your profile and your township. You may get one of these guys to chat.

Thermoimager... depending on what you get it can easily cost over $20k
The combustion analyzer I use cost around $2k. A CNC plasma table can easily rack up the cost to $50k. Heck, you want to get real technical... the machines that will make duct automatically... I have no idea what they cost, but I'm sure it's more than I'll ever make in my lifetime.
It's also not so much about cost, but knowing what to do with them too. I mean, the best mic out there wouldn't be able to make me sing (ok, well sing well enough that dogs wouldn't howl for miles lol). No different than our tools in your hands likely wouldn't make you a tech.
Honestly though, don't take this thread too personally... we're not against you specifically, like was mentioned, we just can't give info out to anyone that's not qualified and trained.

Well, I am not that stupid. From a liability standpoint there is NO differnce in you answering a question from a homeowner directly or that same person reading a topic of the same problem where you guys advise each other. I did look at topics before I started my original one to see if there was one pertaining to my problem. What if you pros had been talking about it and I just used that info?
If this is the case, you guys need to make this site not available to any Tom, Dick or Harry to look at. Otherwise you are defeating the whole part of this arguement.
And how do you know who I REALLY am? I could be some plant from Trane trying to see what you guys do or really know?
I will go elsewhere or find the answer.
This is an itermittent problem apparently. That is why the two techs have not figured it out. I called while it was doing it and they sent a guy over right then, but when he got here it cleared up...
Again, sorry to be PO'd. I have just NEVER met so much resistance in looking for help online. Heck I can get more info from a doctor on a medical website...I am not sure what ya'll think you are protecting....
And how do you all know who is and who is not a real HVAC pro? Heck I could have faked a whole profile and made it look like I am one of you. I see people doing that all the time in my business. And DIY is what has ruined my industry. Too many people now think with a computer and a microphone that they are a recording engineer unlike guys like me who have spent over 30yrs learning it....

Well, it is very apparant you haven't seen one of the recent episodes of "Hannah Montana". If you had, like me, you'd know that those sound studios can make anyone sound like a pro..........:D
Man, I miss the days when I was the king of the remote control:o

And DIY is what has ruined my industry.
And we are not going to let it ruin ours. No DIY questions can be answered, there really is no more argument about it at all.
See the forum rules in my signature line.
Thanks for stopping by.

Well... I tried...
OK smart guy. First off no you can't fake it here or fake a registration. I doubt you could pass the tests or fake the certifications needed to have access for the REAL forums where we DO discuss our technical issues. You may be able to go to work with the guys that came to your home but that too is doubtful.
AND, the Manufacturers come here to speak with us and to follow the "closed to you" professional access areas for their R&D.
Any post you find that discuss DIY are being removed and inserted into a 140 sub-forum for educational purposes thus removing guys that can't walk straight and chew bubble gum from being a liability to themselves. This educational forum will be locked to those without submitted credentials in the business. It's not like you can go to the street corner, get your photo taken and renew your SS# for a new identity.
This site is owned and operated by a multi-million media company that is the oldest and most respected in the industry today. They say no DIY, it means no DIY.
The next time you hear of an apartment fire or an old couple that were killed due to their house filling with gas blowing up or someone electrocuted themselves because they went to a DIY website to save a few bucks remember this conversation.
Finding out who you are is easy, George.
So you say sorry you're PO'd, well me too. I've had my belly full of guys that post like you do and still don't understand. Sorry we can't help but this is not a DIY site or a place for you and others like you to come here and make a nuisance of yourself when we say, SORRY.
Now, before I say something I may regret.......
Have a great holiday season.
