American Standard is no more

On Nov. 28, 2007 we successfully completed a plan announced the previous February to separate the three American Standard businesses, leaving each free to concentrate exclusively on the markets it knows best. . Over the course of the year WABCO was spun off as an independent corporation and Bath and Kitchen was sold to Bain Capital Partners. On Nov. 28th American Standard Companies changed its name to Trane, with its stock trading under the new symbol "TT". Our new name reflects our business focus and our leadership in providing integrated heating, ventilation and air conditioning services and solutions.

New chapters in our history of growth through innovation are being written every working day. Our momentum continues to build because -- as our people have said for years -- "it's hard to stop a Trane."

The brand name still continues but it is now American Standard brand, a divison of Trane Inc. instead of the other way around.

How are you American Standard dealers going to tell your customers that American Standard makes Trane now? Looks like Trane makes the American Standard brand! American Standard is Trane's second tier line.

Considering the product is identical except for the cabinet of the XR/XLi units, hard to call A-S second tier.

Trane is the corporate flagship brand. Carrier is UT's corporate flagship brand. American Standard & Bryant are fighting brands used just to increase market share. They all can't be the first tier, or premium lines! American Standard & Bryant sold to anybody not a Trane or Carrier dealer.

Were I'm from only American Standard dealers can buy American Standard, except for commercial just like TRANE who will sell to anyone for commercial. Standard is sold too anyone (2nd. Tier). I still haven't seen American Standard at Home Depot!

Where I am from, American Standard is sold to anyone. And I mean anyone!!! Home Depot installations are done by Trane dealers. Having the Trane brand displayed in Home Depot stores actually gets Trane dealers more business & strengthens the already consumer viiew that Trane is the best out there.

What is the TRANE dealers cut on the equipment sold by Home Depot, don't see how the profit margins for the dealers can be as high as if they could sell the equipment to the end user. Let's face it people are not buying TRANE because it's in Home Depot, they are buying it because they want TRANE. Just like most people who buy a vehicle they know what they want when they go shopping.

Trane dealers price entire job for Home Depot installations including the equipment. Trane dealer provides the equipment for the job & buys it from his regular Trane source. Home Depot does not furnish the equipment to the dealer. Home Depot does get a percentage of the entire installation cost. Dealers price their jobs accordingly. Home Depot gets percentage to pay for their promotion & administration cost & to make a few bucks.
